What Custom Competition Nosler Bullets Need to be Next?

I would like to see 2 projectiles in the Nosler BT configuration, specifically for the 270WSM.

1. A 270/6.8 110-120 for mid range varmint shooting.
2. A 270/6.8 160-180 for long range target applications.

**6mm 95 gr optimized for 1:10 & 105-110 gr optimized for 1:8

**6.5 139-145 gr VLD

**308 173-178 gr VLD - bc>.515

**.308 190-210 gr VLD - bc > .6

.338 300 gr ULD - bc >.75

** are markings to deliniate bullets that would be hugoginormous smash hits if you equaled or beat Sierra's offerings. I assure you Nosler would recoop the tooling costs if they did it right the first time with tight QC!

Not likely. Years ago, I shot Berger 175s over a chronograph with muzzle and target screens (1000 yard range). The G1 BC (only good for calculating time of flight) was .479. And the Berger is a true VLD design. The Sierra 175's G1 BC (shot the same day, under identical conditions) was .457.

**.308 190-210 gr VLD - bc > .6
Again, unlikely. 1200 Yard BC tests in the UK indicated that both Berger and Sierra 190 grain projectiles had identical BCs, roughly equal to a G1 value of .525.

Now Nosler, we're buddies right?? hehe I've seen some of the other posts ( different forum topics) and I think that your patience amazing  A Lubalox ® coated 153 to 163 / .270 Nosler Custom Competition™ would be nice for 1k... ( we're a gunna need a few of 'em, you may wanna start workin n that one ), althought you didn't hear if from me first. They would need to compete with the best in 6 , 6.5 , 7mm and 308, so the BC wuld have to be wayyyyyyy up there. A tall order to be sure. What do you think Nosler? Can it be done , or is this JUST imposible to do??

I would like to see a .284" offering 162g-175g for 7 mag shooters and the like. Right now I'm shooting a 168g Berger VLD with a BC of .640 at 2950fps. Its a good accurate load, .3" at 100 yards, 1.75" at 400, and 3.5" at 700 is what I"ve shot at so far. I intend to use this load for a while and see what kinda results I can stack up. Bear season is here, and buck season is around the corner.

Yes, a bullet in 6.5mm would be perfect, especially one weighing 140 grains. I am shooting a Model 38 Swede, and get 10 ring groups with current bullet. How about a bullet that requires no meplat trimming? MM.

6mm/.243 caliber bullet with a Poly-Tip in the 105 to 115 grain range.

I think the first competition bullet maker that comes out with a 110 to 112 grain bullet with a BC of +.550 that will work in 8-twist barrels could corner the market.......

So many at the 105 to 107 grain already. No one but Hornady has the poly-tip, but the 105 A-Max suffers a low BC and does not get used much
for BR and F-Class past 600yrds.

A bullet with fucas to be better then the 107-SMK and Berger 105 VLD for BC.

The 115-DTAC is a great bullet but will not shoot very well over 8-twist on less it is shot at +3050-fps. Not many of the barrel makers offer under 8-twist like is needed for the 115-DTAC (7.5-twist is optimal here).

An OAL of +1.200" (1.300" or longer would be better yet) with your poly-tip and an ogive radius above 11-cal is my suggestion. With the core located as far back in the nose aspossible to aid in core pressure stress to the ogive area.....

Happy Shooting

I would think a 7mm caliber maybe would get some use. 168g with a BC of .625 or so would be great. I know I would at least try them!!! Quite a few 7mm shooters out there.

That's a no brainer! A .338 VLD with rebated boattail of 7 degrees and slightly cupped base of about 230 grs. weight!

Well it looks like the 6.5 140 grain won but maybe there's hope for a 105 or heavier 6mm in the future.
HM.

With the 140 gr 6.5 on the way, I definetly think Nosler Custom Competition bullets would get a huge wave of increased interest with a 175ish gr .308 caliber bullet. The price and quality of the Custom Competitions is not going unnoticed, and there are many, many, many .308 shooters around that would use these over that other major competitor.

Also, those silly 6mm guys would definetly use a 105+ grain .243 caliber pill for their paper guns. They would have to be very well constructed to meet the benchrest standards, but they will be.

There is also an increased interest in 7 millimeters recently, something in the 168+ grain .284 caliber would look rather tempting, what with Nosler making .280 AI brass now... hmm...

On down the line, a HEAVY .338 bullet with a psychotic B.C. would fit in nice with those 1500+ yard prairie dog killers and brick wall destroyers. A 275 grain (300 grain even better) .338 caliber bullet that's AFFORDABLE TO SHOOT would be a hot sell.

Of course, in 9 years when Nosler gets those out of the way, a 150-160 grain .270 caliber bullet would be pretty awesome so the .270 could have it's legs stretched the way it should be.

Listed in order, there is a market for all of those bullets ESPECIALLY at the prices and quality Nosler has been providing with the Custom Competition bullets so far.

Check out www.wildcatbullets.com He makes target/hunting style VLD bullets. Very accurate, have BC's on par with Berger VLD's usually, and are really not that expensive. He also makes very heavy for caliber bullets for ultra long range shooting. Did I mention he is one heck of a nice guy to talk to??

No doubt Richard makes some excellent bullets, at proportionally good prices. However, myself pumping out 1500+ rounds per year, even $5/100 over other brands adds up. Some specialized shooters do make use of extremely high ballistic coefficients, but the majority of precision shooters just need to shoot more ammo for less money, with realistically high B.C.s .... Kinda the whole ideal of the Nosler Custom Competition series.

Another vote for some heavier bullets in .30 cal... 175gr to compete w/ the SMK and A-Max, and possibly a 190gr as well.

105-107gr 6mm pills would probably do well, as would 175-180gr 7mm bullets. Hopefully the B.C. would be a little less... disappointing than the 140gr 6.5mm bullet.
