Dan, can't help but keep this line going!
We have a number of members here that had the pleasure of hunting Africa and am interested in what most have been using on their plains game.

What have you taken plains game with?

Myself: 0
I had planned to take my 338-06 and bow for the trip I had planned in 2018 for kudu, eland, nyala, and bushbuck.

I used a 300wm, 180 grain South African manufacture.
Kudu, 500 yards, 2 shots, first broke his spine.
Eland, 250 yards 1 shot
Nyala (2) 150 yards 1 shot, 2shots
Bushbuck, missed one at 300 got one at 200 1 shot.
Zebra 50 yards 1 shot
Warthog 100 yards, shot twice
Impala. 100 yards 1 shot
Black Wildebeast. Shot him 4 times in front of the diaphragm. Some one told me they are born sick and each time you put a bullet in one they feel better.
Blessbuk 200 yards one shot.
every bullet exited and in my estimation there was almost no expansion. (Except the eland) the exit wounds could have been mistaken for entry wounds. (Long story on borrowed rifle and ammo)

Africa is on the bucket list.
Plan on taking my
Remington 700 custom 338 RUM
Nosler M21 375 H&H

JD338

I took my Kudu at 515yds, my impala was about 100yds, my warthog was about 50 and my gemsbok was about 400yds. All were shot with my 375-358STA shooting 250gr Sierras at 3080fps. I shot my blesbok with a 30-338 and 190 Bergers at about 250yds.

I was pretty fortunate and was able to hunt South Africa in 2012. I took my Ruger No 1 in 7x57 with handloaded 160 grain Accubonds and a Ruger 77 in .35 Whelen with hand loaded 250 grain Partitions. I used the 7x57 for Gemsbok, 2 Impala and a Blesbok. I used the Whelen on Zebra, Blue Wildebeest, Kudu and Warthog. 8 shots were fired for those 8 animals.7B22EE54-F2FC-47B8-ACCA-43738A31A581.jpeg9037AC01-4052-46D4-82BF-22134617EE96.jpeg50B96C95-2C43-403E-ABEF-2668C4796926.jpeg

I've written reports on my two opportunities to hunt South Africa so all ya all can read them for better details-But we have taken my .300wm remington 700, my Sako .375 wby and my pre 64 winchester .30-06 model 70.
All handloaded ammo-the .300 as I recall we used the original 200 gr. trophy Bonded bear Claws and two of use took 20 or so animals. Next trip the .30-06 using 165 gr factory federal trophy bonded bear claws. The .375 was 235 barnes tsx bullets.
Four colors of Springbok; steenbok, duiker, impala, zebra, kudu, eland, bushbuck, warthog, waterbuck, gemsbok, red lechwe, sable red hartebeest, blesbok, nyala.
The first shot is the one that matters so take time and make it count. A poor first shot will cause no end of troubles!resize diamond impala.JPGresize mike blesbuk.JPGresize tbbc.JPGresized blue.JPGresized kudu.JPGresized red.JPG

The TBBC was one of my favourite bullets for many years. It never let me down. Excellent photos.

All of my 15 animals on my only trip to South Africa was with a 357 Magnum revolver and my 7mm Dakota center-grip XP-100
