Been thinking more about the 30-06 "brush gun" thread, and am wondering about what I have taken to date with "brush guns"...

Here's what I have come up with:

Pump action:
- cow elk with a 35 Whelen at 370 yards (not your typical brush gun distance with this one!)

Lever actions:
30-30:
whitetail deer 20-40 yards
308 Win:
whitetail 40-80 yards
338 Federal:
- caribou 120 yards
358 Win:
- elk 60-140 yards
375 Win:
- black bears 5-100 yards
- moose 100-226 yards
- caribou 80 yards

Bolt actions:
338 Federal:
- moose 80 yards
- caribou 150 yards
9.3x62:
- moose 180 yards
376 Steyr:
- elk 150 yards
- bison 100 yards

Finally another I can contribute to!

Marlin 336 in 30-30:
White-tailed deer at 170 yards (scoped using 160gr FTX)
White-tailed deer at 50 yards (peep sight)

Marlin 1895 in 444 Marlin:
Coyote at 15 yards (irons)
Red fox at 100 yards (irons)

Pump guns.

20 gauge slug.
Whitetail. Shotgun bead only.
Two. 60-80 yards

Levers.
M99 in 308.
Whitetail. Iron sights.
Four. 60-100 yards.

M71 348
Whitetail. Iron sights.
Two. 30-65 yards.

Rem 760 35 Remington.
Whitetail. All scoped.
Three. 90-130 yards

Rem 760 35 Rem deer 40-170yds. Rem 870 12ga 2 deer 50-60 yds. What I'd call brush guns that I've used. Dan.

I guess I only have two brush guns. Taken a few deer with my 98 mauser in 9.3x62. It’s fitted with a XS ghost ring rear sight, and I gotta say it’s been pretty fast for me in the brush. Others are my 44 magnum handguns I guess. Sometimes iron sights, and sometimes with red dot. I honestly don’t consider my two 416’s as brush guns, since I use them out to 300 yards.

This little lever in 357 has killed more whitetail than I can count. It was most kids first deer hunt rifle, and out to 125 yards was deadly. 158gr Speer JSP @ 1800fps

Of all the “brush guns” I have owned I think this was the only one I ever took any game with. It was perfect for still hunting standing corn.

Need to use my Marlin in 41 Rem Mag!

I have a 1894 in 44 mag also. I haven’t done any with it but it has been standing guard over the chicken coop for the last couple years

I only own one "brush gun', a Marlin 1895SBL in 45-70. It's more versatile than you might think and can slap a bowling pin down at 300yds fairly often.

With it, I've taken:
whitetails
hogs
bears
moose

My very first deer was killed with dads marlin .30-30 and I have no idea what kind of ammo. . .
Afew years ago I bought my own Winchester model 94 “classic” and I think this is the only deer I’ve shot with it. Hornady flex tip handload. Wish I had more opportunities to use it, really a fun rifle.30DCE89F-5CC8-4182-8DA7-93A4DD3C9D7A.jpegB65344E3-63CF-4853-97D2-FEDA331D4515.jpeg

Muley at about 70 yards, with my 45-70 Marlin some years ago.

Handloaded 405 grain Remington bullet at about 1650 fps. Did a fine job. :)
