I have had good luck with win supreme 780 in my 130 BT loads, but it is not working with the 150 grain sst. I have IMR 4350, H4350 and win 760 on hand as well. Out of those powders which would be my best bet, I'm hoping to not have to try all three.

I know some guys have had great luck with RL-22. Might try Magpro, and maybe 7828 as well.

Of the powders you list, IMR4350 or H4350 will work very well with a 150 grain bullet. I have had good success with RL19 as well.

130 bullets H4350 and RL-19, velocity about 3200 -3300 fps
150, RL-22 and MagPro, velocity 2900-2950 fps
It was 24 in barrel.

RL22, Magpro, and IMR7828SC have been tops for me in the 270WSM. It is just about my favorite cartridge next to the Whelen. Work up to 65-66grs of RL22 with a good 150gr bullet and you will be around 3100. Mine is darned accurate with alot of bullets and shoots flat as I need. My overall favorite load to date is 65.5grs of RL22, CCI250, WW cases and the 150gr PT. Shoots lights out accurate and I know it will work on just about any animal I would ever hunt. Scotty

I've got some loaded up with W760 and just ordered some Magpro so we'll see how that works.

Well, I just found out my local store can't get magpro and my loads with 760 were not what I was hoping for, I'm taking a break with the 150's for now. I've got some 140 BT's to try now, gonna start out with IMR 4350 and take it from there.

MagPro is not being imported into Canada; Accurate didn't spend the $10,000 to have it approved by the Federal Government. IMR4350 is an excellent powder. Also, take a hard look at RL19, which works very well with 140 grain bullets in the 270 WSM (but, I'm repeating myself).

I see on the aliant site that RL 22 and 25 give better velocities than 19, was thinking about trying 25 if the 4350 doesn't work out. Do you have any experience with 25?

If you can get your hands on 7828, it is another powder which works really well with 150's. All is not lost without MAgpro. 7828-RL22 both will work really well with 140's and 150's. I almost forget about Retumbo and RL25. Both of those should crank with 140's and 150. Ive never tried Retumbo in the 270WSM but it was stoking mid 2900's with 175's in my 7WSM. Scotty

Rl-25 worked in a 270wsm that I owned. Would shoot 140 AB under an inch, but the load was to hot and brass was shot after three firings. I will be revisiting it in my latest 270 wsm.

Will try magpro, rl-22, rl-25, 7828, and maybe some retumbo. My coal will be around 2.92" so I should have some room for slower powders.

I think you are going to have a blast with the rifle Jake. I am betting after you get the barrel squared away, you won't have to look to hard to getting a good load. Mine really seems to shoot about everything pretty decent. Scotty

nshunter,

RL25 works well, but I have enjoyed better accuracy with RL19 and even with RL22 in the 140 grain bullets.

...I'd try RL-17, you'll have to work up your own data, I start 4grs. under Alliant's listed max. load for a similar bullet, & load up .5gr. increments. Articles I've read show the .270 WSM responding very well to RL-17 (for some reason the 7mm WSM was just the opposite). I've gotten very good accuracy/ velocities using RL-17 in the .25 WSSM, .300 & .325 WSM's, & it's been very temp. stable, important here in WY, where elevations can differ by 5000ft., & temps by a 100 degrees during the same season...

I finally got up to the range again, this time with the 140 bt. First groups were with IMR 4350 started at 59.5 then 60 and 60.4 grains which is max load. All shot fairly well with the 60 grain load being the best at around an inch, but still not what I was hoping for. I loaded up 3 with 67.4 grains of supreme 780 to try which is max, but I had already tried 140 accubonds at that charge and they showed no signs of excessive pressure. Well probably shot my best group ever with this rifle all three shots touching in a nice little cloverleaf group, I guess I am done for now!

If you can afford it, try some Vihta Vuori N-165. It gave great results in my Model 70 with the 140 gr AccuBond and Ballistic Tip. It also worked very well with 150 gr bullets. My rifle seemed to prefer the Federal 210 standard primers or the Winchester Large Rifle Magnum primers over the Federal 215's. I currently load Accurate Data 86 Extruded in mine, because it is very close to Accurate 3100 in burn rate, works reasonably well, and I have 16 lbs of it.
