What to do

I wonder if Weatherby would re-barrel it to .257, .270, or 7mm Wby mag for a reasonable fee?

Some manufacturers are very good about re-barreling their rifles, and usually beat the price of a custom barrel installed by one of the better gunsmiths, significantly.

Worth a phone call to Weatherby perhaps?

Thanks Guy, I've been wondering about that also. There are lots of options just have to make up my mind which way I want to go. If some one were to step up and buy it I would sell it and never look back. I don't think I'm asking too much when you consider it would cost someone $1000 to put this package together and I'm only asking $700 and shipping. But I guess the 300Wby isn't a very well liked cartridge. Looking at a Brake for it right now to tame it down some if loading it down doesn't work.

It's a great cartridge.

20 years ago it was the biggest & baddest .30 cal magnum readily available... Then along came those bigger cartridges...

Love your rifle, I just don't know what I'd do with it that I don't already do with my existing rifles... I've gone back to the .30-06 and .308 Win for most of my .30 cal shooting, though I still have a very nice .300 WSM hiding in the safe.

Perhaps try Gunbroker? I've sold two guns on Gunbroker recently and was very pleased with the results...

I have really nothing against the .300 Weatherby but if you are going to put up with the recoil, you might as well shoot a .340 and get the performance!

That's me too Guy. If my .25-06 isn't enough gun, I grab for his granddaddy the .30-06 and go merrily along. Magnums have their place for sure but apparently in my gun safe isn't one of them. Although I must confess I own a .357 Magnum pistol and a .22 WMR rifle ;)

I still own a 7mm Mag but that is the only magnum that I own, except for a .32 H&R if you count that. Presently, the 7mm needs a new recoil pad but I will have to do that myself or send it out of state as there are no decent gunsmiths in western Washington. What a sad place !!!!!
