What's the perfect Alaskan rifle/round?

jager1,
One of the most popular rifles you see up there is the Ruger 77 in 338WM it is very common even out in the most remote villages. That is partially because of the very compeditive pricing of that model thru the 1980s and 90s. However in recent years there has been alot of interest in the 375 Ruger caliber. Probably because Craig Boddington with Hunting Magazine; has really put out a ton of info and videos of their staff hunting with it; all over the place. He has really pushed the caliber ever since it was introduced. I am sure it is a fine caliber, but weather it will stand the test of time, or can do anything startling, over a common 375 H&H is certainly in question.

Nobody has any pic's off SS M70's?

Neither it (nor I) has been to Alaska, but I can't help but think that with 200 grain Partitions or ABs, it would get it done. .300 Win Mag

Now, Kurt, that can be rectified. You will undoubtedly be booking a flight to Alaska shortly.

Keeping in mind that the (SAE 410, 416 or maybe 440C) stainless steel used in rifles is Martensitic and will rust, especially if the stainless steel is processed on tool steel equipment and is not surface hardened or tempered after fabrication which a lot of components are not. SAE 416 or 440C are still soewhat rust resistant, more than cold rolled steel certainly but they will rust and fast if they are not protected by barrier lubes.

Actually, Mike, I keep looking at want ads for surveyors in Alaska (along with the Hells Canyon area of Idaho, Western Colorado, and Western Montana). She-who-must-be-obeyed/can't-be-ignored is okay with a move, so you never know...

Man, I would love to be stationed in AK! Unfortunately, there are no positions for that for me!

Kurt, I dig your quote. Big Waylon fan!

When a man has a job that permits him to explore new territory and his lady accommodates his wanderlust, it can be heaven on earth. Go for it, Kurt.

I've seen a few of them and they give good results. Don't overlook the 260gr. AB either...in my opinion it almost perfect for a .375 that's used on this continent.
