Now that I just about have the 35AI work done I'm looking to get started on the 7mm Rem Mag.
Looking for suggestions on powders that work well in the 7mm Rem mag with 140gr BT 150gr PT and 160gr PT.

I have to admit that while I owned my 7mm Rem Mag, I had such great success with the Federal Premium ammunition with the 165 gr SGK that I never did try any hand loads in it. It shot better than 1/2" groups and I harvested elk, mountain goat, mule deer and moose with it. Sadly, I sold it when Remington came out with the same rifle in a left handed version, the 700 LSS.

Rodger, I have been loading for the 7mm mag for many years as my hunting partner & nephew both shoot them. The bullet we use is 160gr. AB over top of IMR 4350 powder. My nephew has now changed & loading his 7mm mag with 168gr. ABLRs over top of RL22. I am still playing with that load but nephew whacked a coyote at over 300 yards .
The 160gr. ABs are travelling just under 3000fps & the moa is right around .5.

Blessings,
Dan

I have a 7 rem mag that shoots pretty good , and I shoot it well . it's the rifle I've used to take elk , moose , caribou . I use a 160 A-bond , 66.0 gr RL22 powder , fed 215 primer , win brass . my previous lots of powder always gave right around 3000 FPS . I got a new lot of RL22 powder last fall it gives 3100 FPS accuracy is still very good , so I just resighted my rifle and I'm using it .

Most accurate 162 gr. Hornady SP, with 61 gr. H-4350, CCI Mag primer. Hunting, same load with 160 AB, or PT.

Bunch of favorites, but among them I liked the old JOC formula of 68-69 gr H4831,WW brass and 150 Nosler Partition for something over 3100 fps. Works great with 150 BT as well with no change in sight setting.

My favorites are RL22 under a 160 PT or AB.. I used a bunch of RL25 as well. If I still had a 7mm Rem Mag I'd probably try RL26 with anything 140 and up. It's working well in the 7mm WSM which is just about the same deal.

Back in the day when I hunted with a 7RM, I did quite well with 150 BT's pushed by a boatload of H-4381. Both of those rifles are retired now, I'm older and just don't want to shoot any heavier than I absolutely have to. It's a 7mm/08 now a days.

G'Day Fella's,

Truck Driver, I use H4831sc, CCI 250, Sako Cases with 120grn Nosler B/Tip's and 120grn Barnes X type bullets.
Both bullet types are Moly coated and chrono'ed at just under 3350 fps, with 1/2" to 5/8", 5 x shot groups!
This is in a Winchester Factory M70 All-Terrain (stainless) rifle and the only thing I have done to it, is a trigger job (2 1/4 pound).
Kills like Lightning on smaller deer (Fallow) and similar size game!!!

Hope that helps

I've killed a pile of critters with a 160 gr PT and some H4831..
Then I began experimenting and the 160 gr AB and RL 22 worked alright, I still favoured the PT.
Then just playing with different bullets and powder
I stumbled upon a spicey load with a 139 gr gmx and ramshot Magnum powder that really shot well.
I have taken quite a few animals with that load now including my biggest WT to date.

I load for my dad and 2 buddy's for the 7 mm RM we all shoot something different , in some cases the rifles were particular in some cases just personel choice.
They all shoot quite well MOA or better from a bench on a good day , lol .

Favorite load was the 175 gr Nosler Partition over a stout charge of H870, for 2900+ fps and good accuracy. Why my favorite? It gave me a big ol' bull elk on a memorable hunt up in the Wind River Mountains years ago...

Fascinating load, Guy. I used the identical components for quite some time. In fact, when H870 was disappearing, I bought up five pounds just so I could continue using that particular load. Ultimately, I gravitated to 175 grain TBBC and H870. At last, I moved back to 175 grain Partitions. The loads have accounted for more than a few head of game. In more recent years, I began using WXR. As it disappeared, I have tested several different powders, using more RL22 than about any other propellant. I am still using 175 Partitions, however.

I had good success with 69.5 grains of H1000 and 72 grains of Retumbo under either a 162 a-max or 168 lrab. H1000 got about 2950, Retumbo got about 3050.

With a 140gr. Rem. CL or Nos. AB 66grs IMR4831 Fed. 215 prm. 150gr. Nos. BT or Sie. 150 65grs. IMR 4831 RL-22 worked well with 140gr. bullets. IMR7828 with 160gr. Nos. PT and Speer bts.
