That's a nice one! I like those laminated stocks... Ruger builds a good rifle.
My favorite is my .25-06 Rem 700 CDL with a 4.5-14 Leupold.
A few years ago I was considering building a modest weight sporter for mule deer hunting... Then Remington came out with the CDL, and I realized that they had just built exactly what I was going to do... Have been very happy with it. Nice combination of accuracy, light weight and low recoil. Fills the tag too.
It's funny, I have some old sentimental favorites. I also have a couple of very accurate custom rifles, but this factory built Remington remains my absolute favorite rifle. I did adjust the rather nasty trigger, and it still has the dreaded "J-Lock" but it's really a very nice, modestly priced hunting rifle that is truly what I wanted for a general purpose open country mule deer rifle...
I like the rifles that Remmington makes, they are good looking rifles. I like the pretty wood they use.
I also took out the 6 pound trigger and put a timmeny trigger in there. It's a huge difference. I think its about a pound pull or in that range now.
I also put a nice limb saver pad on it.
After deer season is over im planning on getting it Bedded and floated.
I just found out that my magazine length allows me to lengthin the cartrige to get closer to the lands.
Unable to post a pic, but nevertheless I`ll share my info........I owned a 300 Win. Vanguard for 35 years. Excellent rifle! I sold it earlier this year. I converted over to a much better concept; a more compact, lighter rifle. I now have a Ruger M77 Frontier MK 2, 16.5" barrel, chambered in the 300 WSM...............It`s shorter, lighter, easier to carry, pack, more manuverable, very quick to shoulder & has extremely quick target acquisition.......Also, my chronograph results show, that in spite of losing 7 1/2" of barrel length, the reduction in ballistic performance (compared to my old 24" barreled 300 Win.) is only 4.5% or less; with accuracy as good as before........For the 16.5" barrel, my 200 gr. reloads average @ 2828 fps. (max. load),,,,the 180`s @ 2994 fps. (not quite max.),,,,,the 150`s @ 3155 fps. (not quite max.). About a 15 to 25 fps. loss for every inch of barrel length lost. All are hunting reloads; at 1.220" groups or less!......I have 2 scopes for this compact/scout rifle. A 3X9 Bushnell Elite 4200 mounted conventionally over the action, or I can switch over to my Nikon Monarch UCC, EER, 2.5X8 variable scout scope, which is mounted on the barrel forward of the action, adding excellent hunting versatility.......This little compact is an extraordinary field & hunting rifle. It`s long range & big game capabilities are no different than any 24" 300 WSM or 300 Win. Mag. Simply outstanding!............At only 35 1/2" long and 7lbs. 5 oz. w/scope, this little shorty, is one helluva big boomer!!!.....As mentioned before, I am not able to send a pic. However, please go to......www.gunsandammo.com.....From the home page, click on "long guns",,,then scroll down and click on page 4. At the top you`ll see a pic of the Frontier. Click on that article. There you`ll see a larger pic of the exact duplicate of my rifle, but the scope is a Burris 2.75 scout...........As that pic shows, this rifle was nominated for the 2005 Guns & Ammo/ Rifle of the Year award! The reasons why are obvious & very easy to see!..........It`s my favorite!
All my guns are all favorite of mine. Here's my favorite hammer, a Model 70 Laredo LRH in 300 Winchester Magnum. Load it with 180 grain Hornady BTSP at 3000 fps and it will print sub-minute group all day long.
My favorite dual purpose rifle, a Sako Forrester chambered for 243 Winchester.
My favorite Varmint rifle, a Kimber Model-82 chambered for 223 Remington
My favorite Tactical Rifle, a Remington 700 chambered for 308 Obermeyer
