I want to fireform 280ai brass, which cal would be the better to use? 30-06 or 270? Is there any problems with doing this?

While you can use either case, it would be simpler and quicker to fireform 280 Rem cases, as with either the 270 or '06 you will need to perform extra steps to get to .284 caliber and set the shoulder to the right location

+1 Good advice.

Both the 30-06 and 270 are shorter than the 280 case
May not be a big deal but there is a small difference. Might interfere with a crush fit. You could false shoulder them though

Edit: I misspoke. The difference between the 270 and 280 is the shoulder is .005 further forward on the 280. Guess the 270 would work. Sorry.

Muzz, the way to go would be to neck those .30-06 cases down just enough so they can chamber in the .280 AI rifle. You don't want any fore or aft movement of the case in the chamber as you are fireforming.

BTW, the .280's shoulder is 0.050 inch further forward than the .30-67 and .270, not 0.005 inch.

Well, I guess I am too. I just realized I typed and posted ".30-67" instead of .30-06!

I'd pick up some of the 280 brass blems from Shooters pro shop and use that

And you will have partially correct head stamped brass.
