They claim it is for practice, just as NOAA and NASA needed tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition.

Interesting enough....BP issues practice ammuniton monthly to their agents..... without requiring accountablility. This includes .40 S&W, 5.56Nato and 12 Gauge.
How odd that 20 years ago..... no one would have noticed or even cared.

Just read an article in regards to the amount of ammuntion total ordered for govermental agencies. They are certainly going to be able to practice with 1.4 billion rounds of ammunition. Dept. of homeland security is going to have the highest percentage of this ammunition. Makes you wonder just a little bit.

In real terms, they run a lot of guards and the national investment in protection has gone through the roof. They all run data centers, they all need armed men on those doors.
For some of the orders, you have to figure in the .mil portion as well. For example, one of these e-mails circulating talks about the national weather service stocking up. Well, they run a lot of info through to the .mil and have to protect those facilities.
Then again, there is some absurd crap out there as well. I mean, when even EPA ha sit's own door kickers with full SWAT gear, you know the militarization of our .gov has just gone too far.
