Classic cartridge.
Every American boy has to have at least one.
It is parent to many other cartridges.
It reminds us of a simpler time when one rifle was enough.
Because...

man..... what a statement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have no idea...I dont think I'll ever own one, just dont like them.

Even back in the day, I woulda picked the 270 over it.

I bought a rem 700 270 a few years back and liked the rifle/caliber, but it was sold to fund something else to toy with.

I'd say your pretty much covered with your current battery POP, lol.

Well Jeez Pop, ya got- or have had- one of everything else..... you mean to tell us NEVER an '06!?!?! Find a Ruger RSI or a pre '64, somthing unique if you need an excuse. Look forward to the pics. CL

I never wanted a 30-06. Then, I had a CZ550FS in 30-06 that I bought because I liked the looks of the Mannlicher stock. I kept the rifle for slightly more that a year before trading it for a 7mm WSM. I sold all my dies and brass because I knew I'd never have another 30-06. My 280 and my 300 WSM covered the needs that calibre might address. This did not take into account a 7mm RM and a 7mm WSM. Last winter I succumbed to the allure of a new Model 70 chambered in 30-06. I didn't want the cartridge, but I did want the rifle. The more I shoot it, the more I like it. I imagine it'll have a permanent place in my safe.

I currently have five 30/06s. First high powdered rifle I ever owned was a 30/06. I have taken Elk, Mule Deer, Pronghorn, Whitetails, hogs and other game with a 30/06. Why put up with the extra recoil and muzzle blast of the mags when a 30/06 gets the job done. I own a 300WimMag and did own a 300WSM, gave it to my son-in-law for a wedding present. Neither of them kill any deader. The 30/06 is never a bad choice.Rick.

Pop,

Maybe you should ask the question why you shouldn't.

Pop - I don't know why you suddenly want a .30-06 when you've got that great arsenal at your disposal..

Maybe because if you had one, you wouldn't need most of the others?

Great all-around cartridge that does a fine job on most game at most reasonable ranges. Sometimes I look at all my hunting rifles, and wonder why I have all those instead of just my .30-06, which I've had since I was a kid back in the early 1970's. It would have handled most of the game I've shot just fine. Maybe all of it come to think of it...

I think Alaskan bear & moose guide Phil Shoemaker recently ran some penetration tests, and the good old .30-06 with the 220 Nosler Partition acquitted itself very well. With a good 165 or 180, it does a fine job on most game animals, short of dangerous game.

Regards, Guy

How about: because you know it's one of the greatest rifle cartridges ever developed and all others are compared to it!

Count me in as another that wants an 06. I had one for a short while, it was my first rifle, a M721 in 30-06 and I traded it for a new M70 7mm Rem Mag. I thought the 7mm was better. Either way, I would like to have a M70 30-06 FWT. I have others that fit the same spot, but I think an 06 would be fun and pretty easy to shoot. Plus, my kids will probably use it once they are ready for larger big game. Scotty

Good luck, hope you find one you like. Scotty

Last time I felt like this I would up with a Marlin 30-30  Which I shot twice since then.

So you can do all the load work to see what it likes to shoot, and then set it in your gunsafe while you take all the specialized calibers out hunting, just like I do
