Well after 4 years of applying, my wife got her first bear tag today. We can start baiting this summer and start hunting on Sept. 4th. I can't wait. I hope she gets a good one.

She is thinking about using her bow but the 25-06 will be ready to rock if she changes her mind. I hope to set up for a 15 yard shot.

That is great. Congratulations. We're all pulling for your fair lady to tag out.

Good luck to your bride.
The 25-06 loaded up with a 115 gr PT would be the ticket.

Good luck to her, as a rifle hunter I hope she uses the 25-06 :) Hope you both have fun.

That is awesome! Best of luck to you and your wife.

My wife and I put in for ours a few days ago. It's a six year wait here now so my hopes are not to high. Might try and Idaho OTC spring bear tag.

She will hunt in zone C. I have one bait site on private land locked down and will try to get 2 more this weekend. I would like to try the OTC spring tag in ID but that will be in a few years. I should get a bear tag next year. I plan on using my longbow of recurve. I would like to get one with all of my bows before I try with my rifles.

I can't wait to start a baiting thread this summer. I have been looking at different baits and ideas. I would like to try making a bear sucker. It looks like it would work and keep bears around if there is no bait for them to eat. In WI we are limited to 10 gallons and when I start baiting, I only bait 2 times a week. We can not use meat or animal products like honey. I use ceral and sweets with different pie fillings to mix it up. During kill season they get frosting!!!!!

Good luck! I'm hoping too bust a best this year myself. I'm just as happy with a bow in my hand as I am a rifle!

All I ever used when I baited bear in Northern MN was bulk Molasses (cheaply bought dry in 50 lb bags at your local livestock feed dealer) mixed with cheap dry dog food and made into a slop with water or better yet old stale beer. I liked to hollow out a rotted log or stump and pour a bunch inside the cavity. Soaks into the rotten wood and holds a lot longer than donuts or food scraps. They keep coming back to lick it like a sucker. I also used a splash of anise or vanilla extract on a high branch nearby as a scent attractor.

Polaris, we can not use dog food because it has meat in it. I could use the molasses with a grain of some kind????

You can't use dry dog food? I suppose any common grain like Oats, Corn or Black Oil sunflower seeds would work. You might let them ferment a bit. The feed store or Mills Fleet is definately the place to look for inexpensive bulk feedstuffs. I know they like to hit bird feeders. A pelletized calf starter would probably be a good bet too. They really crave carbs and fat in september.
