My wife has been wanting something that she can shoot all day at the range with me. She had her heart set on a little pink camo Savage Axis youth gun. I told her the length of pull would be way too short for her. So, I shopped around for something we could work with.

Found a Rem 700 ADL 223 Rem at the local sporting goods store for 429.00, ordered a dip kit, reinforced and full length bedded the stock, and spent the weekend cussing and inhaling paint fumes. And here it is...

Now we are waiting out the weather for a bit before we hit the range. It better shoot MOA

Very attractive. That turned out quite well. Fumes were bad, were they? Did you float to bed that evening? Or were you able to walk under your own power? The job came out looking pretty good, though.

She will be pleased, that is a much nicer gun than the Axis is and you gave it the personal touch which is always a good move. Great job, it turned out quite nice.

More than floated to bed. They accused me of having too good of a weekend off at work today.

She loved it when she got back in town yesterday. I may have found a way to bring new rifles in the house. Hope the guys at the range understand if I show up with a pink 338 Lapua someday. Hehehe

If it shoots cloverleaves they shouldn't harass you too badly!

That's pretty darn cool! It appears there are ways out there to get more rifles into the house after all!

It looks real good :). I have a saying that l live with it is happy wife is a happy life !

Blessings,
Dan

Hey if your wife wants a rifle....then whatever color she wants. Looks like you did a great job. Where do you find the "dip kit" and how tough is it to do? Are the results durable? CL

Got the kit through camodipkit.com. It has a learning curve, but it got easier as I went. Seems pretty durable once dry and hardened. They recommend dipping before the base coat of spray has hardened so it got a bit tacky and I smudged a couple of spots when rinsing. Will know how durable it really is once it starts getting hauled around.

I do like how it looks a lot, not to brag. Probably wouldn't dip a nice new scope, but a nice old scope that needed a facelift worked great. Might have to dip one or two more old synthetic stocks in more classic man camo patterns.

We started and finished barrel break in and fire forming today. I hope I don't have to clean another rifle for a long time.

Used 55g BTips over 23g Varget for the process.

The trigger is mushy with some creep, may need to upgrade that. Otherwise it will be a pretty accurate rig. Here are the last 5 10-shot groups.

Looks like it will shoot and I have to say it again that gun looks very nice.

Good shooting rifle that looks good too.

Tight groups can only enhance the beauty of a rifle. Looks as if that particular rifle/load combination will work just fine for a beautiful rifle.

Yes that rifle will work indeed. You may want to upgrade that trigger to a Timney and then you will never have to touch it again.

Blessings,
Dan

My wife has finally found some time to get to the range with me recently. Barrel is broken in, wife is broken in with the rifle, and today she started OCW on the 55 BTip over Varget.

PDogs need to look out. And I need to stay home. She wins the accuracy title this month.

She has mastered that rifle and load. Congratulations to your good lady. Fine riflery, to be certain.
