Winchester 1886 4570

Well the Winchester 1886 takedown is ready to go to the range. Drilled and tapped for a Skinner rear peep sight like the original ones came with. Let's see what I can do with an open-sighted 45-70

I bet that basket weave is rough on the face though.

I thought Tom Horn was famous for using a 38-55 which was similar to the 348.
Either way it is way too cool.
I have a Win take down 22 pump that was rode hard and put away wet with lots of pits and a rubber recoil pad but the bore is clean on it and still has 80% of the factory blue on it.
I usually take it to the range with me and shoot it while waiting for the barrel to cool on the center fire rifles.

Lots of stories mostly unsubstantiated. In the movie Steve McQueen said he used a 45-60. Then somewhere else I read a 30-30. I don't think it was a 4570 I'll just call that my Tom Horn rifle

I had to resurrect this since the movie Tom Horn was on the TV last night and I stand corrected on the caliber rifle he was famous for using
The 45-60 is what he liked since it could be bought at any General store should he run low on ammo.
He was framed for killing a teen age boy that was sitting on a fence by the cattle men that hired him and a sheriff by the name of Joe Bell.
