Winchesters SX3

Oh the SX3 is an awesome shotgun and eats everything you feed it. All I want is a gun that fits and goes boom with every slap of the trigger, and the SX3 is that gun. If you ever want to come out and kill geese just let me know, we kill LOTS.

Thats exactly what I want out of a shotgun. The SX3 felt nice, but so did the Maxus. This weekend I plan to take a closer look at both.

The Maxis and SX3 are one in the same for all intent and purpose other than the Maxis breaks down with a lever in the forearm and some other slight differences which are not enough to worry about. Either gun would be a fine choice.

Bill,

Out of curiosity, do you know if the SBE was designed by Feinstein et. al.? Is it possible that Sarah Brady had a hand in development of this particular shotgun? Or perhaps it is a Joe Biden special?

That might happen one of these days Bill... All I seem to have on my mind is elk when I come to Oregon. Might need to broaden my horizons... That's alot of geese!

The SX3 is a knuckle dragger shotgun Scotty, I need one like that also for waterfowl. Like Bill, if it does not fire 3 times in a row, it is flying with the geese. That is why I bought an SX3! I have not seen the new A-5 yet and remain neutral.

For grouse and quail, I have a Beretta O/U and despite being Italian, they are quite robust and mine has never failed to fire or never failed to kill a farm pheasant (dumb planted birds).

Bill, I saw a friend of mine do a similar thing with a Browning Gold Stalker while shooting sporting clays. He, his dad, and his brother all bought the same model at the same time but my friend's was a definite lemon. It would function if it chose to and if not.......then it was a manually operated semiauto. It was sent back to Browning several times and each time returned with an assurance it was "fixed"....until he tried to actually shoot it. It had cost him some geese and ducks too. Finally, one Saturday he had all he could take and gave it a sling across the grass with many other folks watching. Interesting to see their facial expressions.

He bought his kid a Super X2 and there wasn't any apparent way to get it NOT to shoot and function. I own a Super X2 turkey gun and have fed it everything from 7/8 oz. skeet loads to 3 1/2 turkey loads without a hiccup. I worked with three other guys who all bought X2's (prior to the X3 being debuted) and they had great luck with theirs, too, and believe me when I say they are HARD on their stuff.

If I were buying a new shotgun I think it would be an X3, a Beretta Extrema, or an A5.

Huh, I didn't know you had one of them. Like I said, my hunting partner and best friend has one and it is a shooting machine. Some say they jam alot in the cold, but so far his fires without a hiccup.

Scotty, I don't shoot much in the cold with my lungs but the SX3 is a shooting machine. I gave mine to my grandson to hunt ducks with and it has never jammed for him and he hunts in the worst weather that we have here!

They sound like a winner to me Charlie. Bill seems to blast a lot of geese and that is pretty rugged hunting. I'd surely give one a whirl. Plus I think they'd make a great turkey blaster without being a club to carry around.

I agree Scotty, they are not really heavy, plus if the guys who exhibition shoot shotguns chose SX3's that says a lot to me about balance and reliability.

I have some much needed time off this weekend and will be going to look real hard at the sx3. If all goes well I may end up with one for Christmas

You won't be sorry.

For an upland shotgun, The Benelli Montefeltro fits me like a glove and is light. If I get into waterfowl, I might just get an SX3. I'm getting a chocolate lab pup with great pointing and retrieving lines real soon so it might not be too far off...

I went and played with the Benelli M2 , Winchester SX3, Browning Maxus and Browning Silver today. Benelli is a definite no go. Browning Maxus took third, the SX3 second, and for some reason the Silver felt better to me then the SX3. When I have the cash in hand, I will do one more comparison of the SX3 and Silver. Really liking the Silver the best

The silver and the SX3 are stepsisters under the skin. They look and handle differently but are similar in design.

That is some good info, too bad there is no LH version for the rest of us. Both sound like good shotguns.

I handled them once again. The Browning Silver Stalker really felt the best to me, it just has a 3 1/2' chamber though, and I prefer a 3". The Maxus Stalker took second, and that does have a 3" chamber. I have plenty of time to make a final decision, as I am now working on a 45-70. Thanks for all the insight everyone.

Have you checked out the new A5's at all AJ?

I have not, are they a good buy? That one was on the list, as was the Benelli Vinci, just for some reason did not handle either
