I was listening to the radio last night coming home from NC. Heard a good talk show with a Biologist from Yellowstone, who said he was in from the get go of reintroducing wolves into the Park. Also, there was a lady from a wolf advocate group who voiced her concerns about killing the Alpha Female.

It was a great way to spend an hour on the road. The lady from the wolf group didn't seem like a nut at all, she actually stated that hunting is a good way to control the wolves, she was just saddened by the female that was shot because she was a park favorite. Anyhow, it was pretty interesting to here the biologist's thoughts on the wolves in the part. He also mentioned he was a hunter and wolves should and will be controlled, but losing a collared wolf is hard on his research.

The fact that they were shot outside of the park boundaries indicates that either: (1) the territory for park wolves is expanding, perhaps out of necessity because the pack is too large; (2) the territories are larger than initially estimated; (3) game in the park is being sufficiently impacted that domestic game is now targeted; or (4) new packs are being formed. While the advocate may regret that the alpha female was shot, it is a certainty that within a very short time another wolf replaced her. Moreover, the replacement would not have been on the basis of a vote.

Scotty/Mike, those wolves have always roamed both in and out do jelly stone. Many millions of acres around the edge of the park have the same habitat type. In places it's very hard to know whether you are in or out. The big bears and Wolves have occupied that Island P ark area for years. As you stated no loss, lots more behind her. I am betting she would have been replaced in a few tears anyway.

Yes they stated that she was 6 years old and being in the wild she would be starting on the decline in the near future and natures way can be very cruel.
They are a beautiful animal but have to be controlled.

Blessings,
Dan

All the more reason I'm starting to like Wyoming more and more!

I just saw on the news that the MI House of Representatives passed the bill allowing a hunting season on
Wolves.

That is great. Is Snyder likely to sign such a bill?

Yes, Snyder will sign the bill when it reaches his desk.

And with a Republican Senate, MI might just have a wolf hunt next year. That is great news.
