Won’t buy another Savage ever again

I ve been wanting a 243 for a few years and after seeing the reviews on Woo Tee Woo on the Savage 110 Trail Hunter I decided to try them one more time… Rewind about 20 years ago I bought a Savage 116 Weather Warrior in 300WSM… Gun wouldn’t shoot better than 2.5” at 100 and after looking downnriflingvi could see what looked like two different sets of tooling marks in the rifling like the last 4” of the barrel… sent it back to savage and and explain prob they sent it back with a target with a 2” group and said that was except able accuracy… I itgot rid of it and said never again… Well back in October I decided to give ol Savage another try… BIG MISTAKE!!! I bout the Trail Hunter 243 and right off the bat cycling issues!!!! I mean every friggin round would jam!!! Next issue the Hoegue stock is a flimsy WPOS I couldn’t look through my scope and rest my check on the stock without my crosshairs moving all over the place… The gun shot ok but god help you if you needed to make a wick follow up shot. Ain’t happening… so I contemplated training it in on a Tikka T3X light and the prices on them are pretty high… I really didn’t want to take a chance on another budget rifle (ruger American) so I decided to look into this crappy rifle and see what I could do… Well the magazine was all my jamming issues so I reinforced the sides of the magazine and that corrected my cycling problems now it cycle like a dream!!! The stock issue a put a pressure pad at the forend and that fixed my crosshairs moving all over the place… Now the gun with my reloads will consistently shoot in the .5’s regularly… I’m happy with the rifle now but I will never buy another Savage rifle ever again!!!!!!!!! From now on it will be Tikka without any reservations

I have a SAvage 110 in 6.5 prc with over 3500 rounds dowm the tube. No issue's at all.

I have owned and worked on over 100 savage rifles and still own about a dozen. Never ever an issue in accuracy or otherwise.
That said everybody produces a lemon now and again. All I can say is give them a chance to make it right.

I gave em a chance to make the 116 weather Warrior right and they sent it back with a test target with a 2” group and thumbs up lol… I’m sure there is a majority of savage owners that are happy. I just don’t have much luck when I try to save a dollar… Buy once cry once mentality for me

I have 3 Savages in the safe a Striker with a 25 Creed barrel , a 112 Magnum Target in 338 Lapua extremely accurate with Nosler 300gr CC or RDF and a 110 in 458 WM. That one is getting a new barrel that’s on order.

Oh man I wish I new you were getting rid of that POS 300 WSM! Do you know where it is? As in you sold it to a buddy or local that hates it as much as you? I'm not being completely sarcastic. This inquiring mind really wants to know.

3” group will be in the vitals on deer out to 300 Yards.

I know we all want more accuracy than that but if you’re only hunting out to 200 Yards I wouldn’t sweat it. That said I’d want a more accurate rifle.

Which model?

The 93s are VERY picky with regard to screw tensions. I bedded mine, and it took forever to get the balance of screws correct and have it feed well again.

It’s a 93 Minimalist. I played with the action screws going from below to over torque specs and it didn’t help. I have the same gun in 22lr and it shoots/cycles great.

I think I ended up shimming one of the parts with a small washer to get the angle correct and have it feed.
Just a thought.

Sorry fellas but guns to me are a bit like women, there has to be some physical attraction or it will never last.

Savage 99’s and the Model 1920 bolt action notwithstanding, I have never beheld a Savage that I liked good enough to take home and keep. Even if she shoots, which a good number of them REALLY DO, they are just too homely in my opinion.

Now a pre-64 Model 70, a nice Mauser 98, a Sako L46, Ruger No.1 and select M77’s, hello pretty lady!!

I've owned close to a dozen Savage rifles ranging from a pre-accutrigger model I purchased in the late 90's all the way up to the most recent 110 Storm featuring their new Accustock(2019). I've never had accuracy problems with any of them; in fact, the four-shot group I'm using as my avatar was done with a Savage 110 Storm chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor.

I have 3 110's. 1st 1 bought in '15, 300wm 10t 26" ba/le. Shoots crazy good with hsm berger 210h-vld iirc. 2nd purchase was a few years later in 300wm 24" 9.25 or 9.35t stealth that shoots the same factory ammo real good. 3rd purchase was a 338lm 24" 9.xxt stealth that's accurate with imi/iwi 250smk's. I had a good three-pete with savage. I liked the 110 actions so much I bought 3 more abd built 1 32" 7.5t 264wm and 130" 9t 300wm. Haven't decided what I'm building with the other one? The 3 factories are all on chassis's.

Bummer there was such an issue on the 1's you bought

I bought my son a new Ruger 22 pistol for Christmas , years ago . it had problems jamming right out of the box . I thought if I could run some ammo through it , it would work it's self out . it never got better . it got tossed to the back of the safe and pretty much forgot about . years later , I decided to try to remedy this . I contacted Ruger about the problem and what a pleasant surprise . if I remember right , I paid to ship it to them , and they repaired it and shipped it back . this handgun has been flawless ever since

In spite of my feelings about savage rifles I’ve shot a bunch of them. Typically 06, 7mags and 300s. Our local gun store, when I was a kid, had just about anything you wanted as long as it was a savage. Never saw a single rifle that did not shoot pretty dang good. But really, hunt with a Savage or with a Ruger #1

When you borescope a Savage barrel , one wonders how they even could hit a target. They are the roughest bores I’ve seen and doggone they shoot well.
With the barrel nut you can change barrels at will.
