Today the ball got rolling for an antelope hunt in 2015. It would be me and a coworker from school. We have turkey hunted together in the past and run the Conservation Club at school together. We are looking at WY for the general rifle season. We would like to add a doe tag or two along with our buck tag. We plan on buying a point still this year to help with drawing odds. I am excited and want to get things lined up before it is too late. We are willing to pay a trespass fee and camp if need be. I am not asking for your honey hole, but if you are willing to recommend a ranch or area or other tips that would be great. Our goal is to see some animals and have a good chance at an average buck.

Thanks

...I like the area E. of Saratoga, Units 52, 53, 55, 56, 108. Lots of public land, pretty good access, good camping on NF, close enough to town for a motel room or showers, groceries, gas, etc. Some good bucks hanging out right along the verge of the timber that don't get near as much pressure as the more "popular" units. Check the draw results/ success rates, see what looks good to you, & we can probably steer you in the right direction...

(...p.s. Saratoga is much nicer than Jeffery City...)

I have bowhunted WY one time and got a nice buck in unit 19. My question about rifle hunting is pressure. In WI, on opening day, it is like WWIII and woods that have not seen a person in a year are now loaded with blaze orange. What can someone honestly expect as far as seeing other hunters??? (0-5, 5-10, a group of 25 making a drive in a 20 acre woodlot shooting every deer that moves)

When looking at the success rates table, what do you focus on? The number of buck tags issued and the % filled, # of days hunted to fill tags, nonresident success? I am just trying to use the information the best way possible.

From just looking at most zones, they are 85% or higher in success. To me that seems fairly high. Looking at bear and turkey data from WI, our success is way lower.

...hunting pressure is usually figgered hunters/ sq. mi. or even sq. mi./ hunter, most are experienced & courteous. For most hunters in WY it's a way of life, & not many nonresidents buy a rifle & drive to WY just to shoot something...

...I start w/ access. There are some areas w/ literally thousands of tags available, but access is so poor very few of them get sold. Success rates, well, you're looking @ hundreds of antelope a day, chances are pretty good you'll get a shot. Lower number of buck tags generally equals less chance of a draw, more opportunity for a trophy...
