for every one that just has to have the lapua brass, berger bullets, nightforce scopes
custom actions, custom barrels & custom triggers custom stocks.
here is what I got with a used Savage 110 action, a Adams&bennet barrel 22-250 rechambered to 22-243 Ackley, $56.00 BSA scope
6-24X40 and cheap prvi brass and cheap savage plastic stock.
40 grain ballistic tip bullet, varget 48.0 grains and fed 210 primer.
No chronagraph but should be about 4300 fps.
CAUTION THIS IS MAX LOAD ONE MORE GRAIN BLOWED THE PRIMER

I can't be more pleased with it.
Now that I know it shoots that good I'm going to send
the barrel to Arkansas to have it Nitraited so it won't ware out for many years.

Nice shooting. Should make for a flat shooting coyote load.

I am now working on my 6mm-06 Ackley it is shooting about as good as the 22-243 is
with 58 grain ballistic tips.
Hard to beat Nosler-Savage & Varget

WHY IS MY TARGET GONE?????

Very nice! Nothing to complain about there! A lot of times the big name stuff is just a big name that you're paying for rather than a huge difference in quality. But if some folks sleep better at night knowing that all of their brass is headstamped Norma rather than a conglomeration of WW, R-P, F-C, and Nosler like me then so be it. I sleep just fine and shoot just as straight! Haha

Congrats, that's fine shooting. However, I just don't like Savage rifles, PacNor and Benchmark are local to me when I do a re-tube, I have one box of Bergers, and I shoot a lot of Winchester and Remington brass. If I buy a Nightforce, it'll be for the reticles and/or turrets, not because I think the glass is any better than a Zeiss Conquest.

Sorry, I've been fighting a headache for two days now. Hard to concentrate at the bench when your head is throbbing.

I think he is saying he just doesn't like the looks of them. Same here. I like the rifles for what they are, straight and accurate shooters, they just don't appeal to me like the Winchesters and Rugers. I do think Savage makes a solid rifle though. I owned one for a long time and it was always accurate. Scotty

Very nice target Okie2 - It takes more than just the rifle & ammo to produce such a target. It takes a good rifleman as well. You should be very pleased with that!

Congrats!

would it surprise you all that I was 71 last january and don't ware glasses.

Nope - I know some mighty fine shooters in their 60's, 70's and 80's.

Jim Cloward, a former U.S. 1000 yard prone record holder, comes to my gun club to shoot in a two-day, 600 yard match we throw every year. A few years back he took our range record from us! That son-of-a-gun must be well into his 70's... And he did it while shooting one of the rifles he built, with iron sights.

My own Dad shot a great group with his scoped Remington 700 .22-250 a couple of years back, in his early 80's. I've posted a photo of that group on this forum a couple of times. He used to be one heck of a shot with his old .30-06 rifles, but doesn't shoot them much anymore.

Elzie Scott, a fellow I know, took the Hunter Benchrest Nationals a few years ago. I'd guess Elzie was somewhere around 65 - 70 at the time. That's against the best in the country for Hunter BR competition. I've learned a lot about handloading and shooting from him over the years. Heck of a nice guy.

Yup - shooting is something we can enjoy when we're little kids, all the way up into our golden years. Thankfully!

Again - congratulations on an outstanding group!

Guy

Okie I do own two Savage Model 99 lever guns, I think they are the epitome of cool and they shoot real straight too! But Scotty nailed it when he said that he just prefers the look of the Winchesters, Rugers, and I will add Remingtons. Just preference....never really liked the look of the Savage bolt guns...have shot plenty of them and they typically shoot great I just prefer what I prefer.

The lines of a Savage are less appealing. However, pretty is as pretty does. If the Savage shoots accurately (and that is not unusual with Savage Arms), then it is a right lovely rifle.

I wish I could like them. With the barrel nut system, switching out new tubes is a snap. Just think of all the oddball chamberings you could build!

I don't know what you all think but I like the looks of my Savages.
My Savage 7 mag
SAVAGE7MAG.jpg

my Savage 6.5 rem mag can change to my 300 wsm barrel or my 270 wsm
300wsm.jpg

I have a short long and mag Savage actions and 12 different caliber barrels
I can change too. It's sure a lot cheaper to buy barrels than 12 different guns.
and a lot of my barrels are $50.00 new take offs.
and I have 8 barrels for remington that I am threading for a barrel nut on them too.
so with 6 actions I will have 20 different calibers.

Very nice looking shooting irons okie2. Who`s the stock maker?

I have a Savage or two.......
