Hi Folks, tried a search on the web for reloading data on this caliber with no luck...

Is there Anyone who could help ?

I think it should (still) be considered almost as a "custom" caliber...

Norma doesn't probably publish the data for some kinda agreement with Blaser, I'd assume...

Norma does list it in their reloading book, but the data on one of the bullets was wrong if memory serves me well? I thought, know way could it produce that kind of velocity and yet have the lighter bullet going so much slower? Error as I remember, but I could be wrong.

QuickLoad does provide data for the 7mm Blaser Magnum. I'm sure someone can run some numbers if you suggest a preference for bullet and powder selection. It is my understanding that the Blaser line of cartridges are to be released in North America in the near future. They are interesting to contemplate.

Yep, it looks like an interesting caliber, working with lower pressure and yet performing quite well.

Looking at the data (the few I have, so far...), it should place itself between the .284 Win. and the slightly more powerful 7 Rem.Mag.
Barrel twist rate offered should be in the same league as the .284, 1:10" that is....
It should perform well with the 162-168 grs. bullets, I'd say.

GUYS....if there's someone Who could run QUICKLOAD for me (based on the following data) I'd really appreciate (y) .
Here we go :

26" - 1 in 10" twist barrel
Hornady A-Max 162 grs. bullet
Vihtavuori N160 Powder.

I am curious to see what comes up....and compare it to the other 7's !

Looks pretty similar to the 7mm Rem Mag actually.

Any idea on case capacity?

Sorry Doc I forgot to thank you....
Great help, as usual ! (y)

Besides, there may be a Friend of mine who's going for this chambering....

JM,

I am a fan of the Blaser rifles. They make a good product and are especially helpful to European rifle owners, where the number of rifles one can own can be less than one wants to own. A Blaser rifle with three different caliber barrels is considered one rifle.

As to their proprietary cartridges, everybody wants their own, like the Nosler 26 and now 28, Dakota, etc. We did not look at the 7, but we did look at the 338 and decided that it was basically the same as the 340 Weatherby and since we already owned a 340 Weatherby we decided not to get the 338 Blaser Magnum.

Now that Dr Mike has answered your original question about the 7mm Blaser Magnum, let me ask a different question. Which would you buy --the 7mm Blaser magnum, the 28 Nosler, the 7mm Weatherby or ?

Europe,
I've looked into the 7 Blaser as, to me, it seems one of the most "balanced" magnum commercially available in the 7 mm. class.
Based on the (few) data I have so far, I'd put it in-between the 7 SAUM and the 7 REM.MAG.
I am not looking for the fastest 7 mm. on Earth.
There are many faster 7 mm. than the Blaser.
28 Nosler, 7 W.by Mag, 7 RUM, just to name a few....
7 Blaser's case dimension tells me that Blaser didn't want to step into that "Race", as this case is shorter than the rest of Blaser Magnums (300, 338 and 375).
They could have easily gone with the same case, hence getting more velocity.
I "suspect" they wanted a more balanced round and as accurate as possible, despite losing some speed (which is still plenty anyway).

What kind of hunting would you do with the 338 Blaser/340 Weatherby ?

I agree JM, it looks like a a nice caliber and as stated before I like Blaser.

The 340 is popular in the colonies and it is popular for a reason. You can easily hunt distance on such animals as Elk, Moose, Brown Bear. In Canada it works again on Elk, Moose and Brown Bear, but also Bison, Muskox and White Bear. It also works nicely in Africa for the larger plains game.

Best of luck to you and your friend on the purchase and reloading of the 7 Blaser, nice rifle/caliber
