Anybody have some good IMR4831 loads with the 154 SST for 7 RM ? Trying to help a novice friend and minimize load workup. Have found 63 grains of IMR4831 with 162 s to work well... he has some 154 s we d also like to get good data on.

Thx in advance for any help.
Note: pls include any info on best bullet jumps you ve found with 154 SST.

For 150gr Swift Scirocco II's, I use standard H4831, 67.0 gr with F215 primers and a good jump. I'd start around 63gr, go up by .5gr with only one round and chrono them. Once you get around your desired velocity, do a .2gr flat spot test starting 1 grain below and .6-1 grain above your desired velocity, and find your velocity node, then load smack dab in the middle of the node.

I'd personally aim around 3000 to 3100, due to the explosive nature of SST's.

I don't have a load for IMR I always used H 4831 or AA 3100 but the 154 Hornady interlock or the SST is probably the best deer bullets I ever used out of mine.

I used to use the 154 interlock bullets, my 7mm hated them. But I kept the same powder charge. 63 gr of imr 4831.

Thanks guys! I ended up loading 63 grs of IMR4831 with the bullets. Trying 3 different seating depths. Had good accuracy with 162 AMax and same powder charge so figured a good starting place.

I ended up moving away from the Hornady products. I use 150 gr nosler ballistic tips. Same charge weight, 63.0 gr of imr 4831. The only Hornady product I use is their leverevoution. Wouldn't mind checking out their superformance for my 7mm.

Just FYI, I do not like this bullet for big deer. I used this exact bullet for 2 years in my .280 Rem at top velocity. Got overly explosive results with questionable penetration. Failed to pass through on broadside shots with no bone contact on 200# class bucks. Penetration would be inadequate on a tougher angle. Meat damage due to fragments and bloodshot was excessive, with fragments embedding in backstrap 45 degrees off bullet vector. Worked better on smaller deer, but I still wouldn't trust it on a tough angle.

Accuracy was excellent though, and I still use it for informal target shoots and for my LR "power line" load. Seems to hold up better at somewhat lower velocities.

Polaris, thanks for experiences. Thought was 'if accuracy good' could use SST for target and practice with switch to Interbond 154 for hunting and tougher bullet. Hornady claims bullets are changeable; don't know yet if that's the case. First objective to find if accuracy and reasonable velocity there!
