Had a good day at the range today. Was trying some 75 grain Vmax's in my Weatherby Vanguard S2 in 25-06 Remington. I have really grown to love this rifle. It shoots a ton of stuff right into 3/4 to 1 inch, 115grn NBT, 100grn Sierra gameking, 85grn NBT, 100grn Speer hotcor........but it always has done its best work with Barnes TTSX in 80 and 100 grain options. It will shoot these with RL17 and RL22 into 1/3 to 1/2 inch very consistently. But today I got a standard cup and core bullet to do slightly better. I have always heard how well these shoot and picked up a box of factory seconds from midwayUSA for 14 bucks a 100 box. I first tried 49.0 of Varget at 3.100" and it shot right into an inch. Then I tried 49.0 of Varget at 3.130 and it shot into .80". Next was 61.5 of H4831sc at 3.130" and it bug holed them into like .29 inches.

Nice. Verify the load and your load development is done.

That's exactly why I love Weatherby's!
My first Weatherby was a Vanguard synthetic stock in .300 Weatherby.
Wish I still had that one. But I had to get retainer money for a divorce lawyer.

Very nice! I used to have an S2 in .25/06 and was a tack driver. Love the S2’s.

As a matter of fact, I have a Browning A-Bolt II in .300 Win Mag, and a Winchester M70 Classic Sporter in 7mm Rem Mag I want to sell so I can buy the Vanguard equivalents.
That's how much I like the Weatherby's and Vanguard series.

Most consistently accurate bullet for my 250. (Sorry Nosler) probably helps that there's just a a little less recoil than the 100 BT's. Nice shooting! Fun aint it?!?!! CL

I used to have a .25-06 that loved 100 gr Sierra Prohunters. It was a middle of the road load of IMR 4350.
I got 3350 fps from it. It was absolute lightning on coyotes and deer.

Very nice! (y) Good shooting!

In some ways the 25-06 is a forgotten about cartridge but not for me. It's a great cartridge that is near the top of the list for me to add back into the lineup. I had one that shot very well but didn't suit me as a hunting rifle.

Thanks for the comments, yeah the Barnes did not take long at all to get to shoot well. I went strait off their website and they did 3/4 inch. Then I moved each load out 10 or 20 thou and they were bug holing. Too me the 25-06 is no doubt a lost cartridge but I think it is making a comeback.

Mine loves the 87 TNT

That's another bullet I want to try. I should have got those back when I got the rifle. Those seem to be in the sweet spot for 25-06's.
