It has been years since I owned one and just goofing off I ran a Q/L simulation with the 100 NBT's just to see what she can do with the plethora of new powders we have available to us. WOW

Fotis, RL26 has been amazing in my 25-06, Pac-Nor 24" barrel. It has shot 100gr. NBT and Sierra SP very well, but I settled on 100gr. E-tips. They reached 3447 fps with no pressure signs and sub 1/2 MOA.

I shot the 100gr E-Tips into water jugs at 25 yards and 60 yards, they expanded to .589" and .586". At 25 yards the bullet was in the 5th jug and at 60 it when through to jugs and into the dirt back stop.

I really like the 25-06. It's taken a couple elk and plenty of antelope and deer.

It's a fantastic cartridge in my opinion. Usually easy to find accuracy with, low recoil if it's on an appropriate platform, and its typical high velocity allows it to punch above its weight class. I had a tack driver in a tang safety 77, I currently don't have one but it's near the top of too many guns that are on my wish list.

100 gr E-Tips at 3450 fps! Wow! And very good accuracy too. Nice.

I may have to try that load soon. I've got some 100 gr E-Tips I haven't tried yet. My previous 100 gr load was the 100 gr Barnes with enough H4350 to reach 3340 fps, a full 100+ fps slower than that RL26 load... Interesting.

Normally though, CL is right, I stick with "my" 115 gr Ballistic Tips, loaded to about 3120 fps via Retumbo. I've run the 115 Partitions, and the 115 Berger VLD's faster, up to about 3190 and a bit.

I'd kinda like to try those 100 gr E-Tips though...

Ya, the 25-06 sure has become a favorite of mine over the years. Terrific cartridge for deer sized game. Never tried anything bigger than mule deer with mine, though ol' 6mm Rem seems to clobber elk-o-saurs with his! :grin:

Well lads, I think you know I love my .25-06 and get 3120fps with the 110gn AB/IMR4831.
Runs like a sewing machine that combo. And, I have taken several 300+ lb red deer stags with it.

But, for fun I really should look at some of these other propellants of which you speak, but I do wonder what level of meat damage you get from a 100gn bullet @ 3400+ fps?

I run Sierra 100gn Prohunters @ 3270 & find for 90-110lb red hinds it’s more than enough to level them and certainly accurate enough to take high neck shots behind the skull at 100yds if necessary, though if at all possible, I prefer to be into a 50/60yd shot of that kind, so there are no mistakes.

With the monolithic bullet, though velocity is elevated considerably, I shouldn't imagine that meat damage will be exaggerated. I've not observed extensive meat damage with the 130 grain E-Tip from my 270WSM, and it can be stepping out right smartly.

I'm a fan too.

I bought my Ruger #1V with the bull barrel chambered in 25-06 in 2002. Great combo and amazingly accurate.

I like Retumbo with the Nosler 115 Ballistic Tips and H48331 with bullets 90 grains and lighter.

How would that data work for Partition bullets or Swift A-Frame or Sirocco's??
With 100gr PAR bullets I have used 56grs of IMR4831 and it has been very accurate and deadly.

100 BT's have long been my choice in the 25-06 for deer. I've used mainly the 4831's and RL-17 with great results. Bang, flop, dress, and drag are the rule rather than the exception.

Ha, so true Guy and back in the early 1900’s the little Mannlicher Schoenauer 6.5x54 accounted for so much in the way of deer and even African dangerous game, so the .25-06 with it’s much greater MV and flat trajectory can do so much more at even greater range when required.

I have killed many hundred deer in my lifetime doing crop damage control for a 15 year stretch plus 47 years of deer hunting in areas that have very liberal bag limits. I have killed them with most calibers from a stick up through 45-70. The 25-06 is right up there at the top in my experience as the perfect deer killing caliber. I have done a lot of experimenting with different bullets and powders on what works best for deer and my conclusion is a powder in the burn rate between the 4350s and H1000 with most any 100 to 120 gr hunting bullet is bang flop deadly on deer. My current rifle likes 117 Sierra Pro Hunters pushed by 49 grs IMR or AA 4350 with Rem. case and CCI 250 mag primer. It averages 3000 fps and 1/4 MOA accuracy. I still remember back in the 1990s and old hunter that had used a 25-06 since way before it was standardized telling me that he would not think twice about shooting an elephant with a 25-06. He said I would blow it's head off. LOL. That might be stretching the 25 a little. LOL

How would that data work for Partition bullets or Swift A-Frame or Sirocco's??
With 100gr PAR bullets I have used 56grs of IMR4831 and it has been very accurate and deadly.

It works excellent with their Sciroccos.

RL26 and the 25-06 are amazing fellas. That sucker thrives on it. Easy to load too.
