338 RUM

If it was me , buy it and run an 338 Edge reamer in it. Remington for some reason shortened the 338 Rum allowing wildcat junkies the opportunity to make it right.

Recoil management has never been an issue for me. For awhile, I used a 460WBY to whack groundhogs but eventually regained my senses.
I use brakes because those big cartridges are (sooner or later) going to give me a little moon shaped scar over my eye, and I'd rather avoid that. :D

I actually ended up buying a different lefty 700. This one is a 7mm-08 North American Custom from the Remington Custom Shop. Got a great deal on it so I couldn't pass it up.

Don't know what part of the country you're from, but unless on hikes leaving your house, you're running into moose and grizzly, that was a way more sensible, practical, and useful choice. At least it would be for me. No contest. The 7-08 is a great round.

The Remington custom shop has turned out some beautiful rifles at times. I'd be interested in seeing that one if you get a chance to post a picture. Sounds like a great purchase. Congrats!

I'm from Southwest Kansas and currently reside in Kansas City. I was going to be buying the 338 to rebarrel it into a 264 win mag because of the wide open land I hunt, but this is just as good in my opinion.
I'll post pictures when I receive it and put a scope on it. I'm sure I'll love the rifle.

I have two of them healing now from testing new 250AB loads for my 338RUM. LOL

Still with my Rem 700 XCR in 338 RUM and again it went moose hunting with me this year ……love the 338 RUM

My area closed the 15th in 20B
I waited till the last week hoping it turn cold well it didn’t turned warmer. Great for camping but not for moose hunting. Plenty of bulls in area would respond but would not come in to my calls too early.
In Early Sep took my old Grumman 19’ canoe up the Chena River hoping I would run into one.
Well the moose gods did not bless me this year yet. It’s open until the 25th in my front yard with Bow. Maybe a bull will come and eat my yard grass if I can pull the old bow back ! Probably would have better luck with a hammer!

We do have moose bed down in our front yard, especially during the winter months. However, it would definitely go bad for anyone who shot a moose here in town. They are eating the grass; they are browsing the trees.

We can hunt in city limits with Bow might pee off a bunch of my neighbors having a bull bleed out going thru the neighborhood. A lot of people just shoot them with a rifle in residential areas like where I am at in North Pole.

We are rural, but not that rural. We have multiple moose winter over in town, but they are generally protected. And now, all moose in this region are protected. It is political as these are socialist moose.

I sometimes feel I would be better off hunt in g from the porch!

Maybe November these moose will voted out of city limits
That’s a old bull !
I was sitting waiting on my wife in Anchorage at Wal Mart and a big bull walked by the pick up !
Naturally I was seeing steaks !

I've never seen bulls wintering over. It is always cows with calves. We had two calves just three weeks ago trotting past the house. I suppose Mama had run them off as she was getting ready for the rut. This was in late April of this year.Moose 2022 04 29 2.jpgMoose 2022 04 29 3.jpg

We've had moose bedded down in our yard in February, April, May, and September so far this year.

I don’t have a RUM but I do have a 338 Jarrett. 2950 with a 250 gr AccuBond. As noted above there is some recoil and it kills stuff dead. I have shot 20 some elk with it, distances 30 yards to 500. Recovered only one bullet, tracked one elk perhaps 30 yards.
I wear a bandana when I hunt with it because I have to clean the snot off my scope lense after I shoot. Thankfully never needed more than one shot.
