"I’m not sure how some of you all decide what to hunt with!"

One must keep in mind, that we may not still own some of these rifles🤔...and then again, some of us might! 😎

As stated, some of us grab that new-to-us firearm that we haven't taken game with as yet, while others are waiting for specific hunts to use a particular firearm.
Then there are those days where we just can't leave Ol' Faithful in the safe and we take her because she is just fun to hunt with, luckier than others, or just begging to go!😁
to be honest I no longer own a 280, or the 41 mag

Patrick, you clearly need more rifles chambered in more cartridges if you are going to catch up with some of these guys. We can encourage you along that line...
Dan, i fully understand, but dont think my wife would. Then there is also the part of me that is a creature of habit, and when its not broke why fix it.:)

It is cool seeing those rifle cartridges in handguns?
Contender and Encore?

Well not near as many as most of you guys but here goes.
Rifle:
270 Winchester
257 Roberts

Handgun:
300 whisper contender
357 magnum revolver

Compound bow

The past few years I've only hunted with a handgun and have passed up shots on small bucks and does while carrying an xp100 in a couple of different cartridges.
Maybe this year I'll connect with one of the XP's.

Yeah, SSK made a bunch of 6.5 wildcats and a lot were made for the Contender. Not many people know the 6.5-270 JDJ.
I just wasn't paying attention.

My fireform loads were a 140gr, either Hornady or Berger doing about 2500 fps. Very accurate and I hunted with them. I haven't really played around a lot with the loads on formed brass. IIRC I had a 130gr AccuBond doing 2700ish out of the 15" barrel. JD Jones claimed 2750+ with 140gr pills but I thought that was optimistic. I haven't tried pushing it that hard though.

Thank you.
For reference below, here is some actual MV's on various 6.5-284's.
I used to have a 15" (Krieger 8T) 6.5-284, that ran 130 Berger's at 2700 fps.
17" 6.5-284 usually runs 140's from around 2665 to 2750 fps.
The two fastest 17" 6.5-284's ran 140's at 2750 and 2785 feet per second. All of the others would run slower.
These loads can handle sustained shooting and keep their accuracy.

A 18" 6.5-06 with 140 A-Max runs at 2880. If I subtract 35 fps per inch for 3 inches (Just over 100 fps), then in a 15" I would probably be around 2780 fps or faster.
