whats the go to powders for 225,250gn bullets in the whelen.

AA2015, Varget, H 4895, RL 15 and IMR 8208 for 225's. For 250's I used Big Game and RL 15. Add IMR 4064 and CFE 223 to the list for both.

We've been loading varget with a 225 gn ab. Don't shoot well at all. Going to try a speer 250 gn hot core. This gun has a ton of free bore. I slit the neck of a case and just hand started a 225 gn ab chambered it and it didn't seat the bullet. About .250 free bore.

Reloader 15 with 225 grain SGK. My second choice for powder is H4895.

Last 250 I worked with in my 35 Whelen Improved was the Nosler 250 PT. I used R15 "but" a friend suggested I use a magnum Primer. It made a huge diffference. That rifle also had a long throat. AA2015 works very good also with the 250.
