Dont remember If I posted these already- if so apologies- Like to think about the stories in some of this old stuff. You can see in the photo that the bullets have been pulled at least once. There's also some "reload data" written on the inner carton. Cousin picked them up for me at a flea market. They were wrapped up in saran wrap, and when I unwrapped 'em the box fell apart pretty much. They rode around on the floor of a Peterbuilt for a couple years before they finally got to me so that powder is likely "powdered" from vibration. (Dangerous condition I am told). Gotta render them "inert". I suspect pulling the bullets is the best way to do that? Any of you "collectors" out there know of a good way to maintain and display that box? More treasures for the "man cave" He paid $20.00 for a 1/2 box of unusable ammo....totally worth it! Enjoy the conjecture....CL

very cool , if this stuff could talk . as a kid , my GrandPap and Dad had ammo in a similar box , but I don't think the boxes had yellow on them . I'm not sure if I have that ammo , I'll have to check on it .

I have a few old boxes of 303 Savage somewhere in my mess. Think they were Remington white and green boxes but don’t hold me to it.

Great pics. I’d be tempted to put them old shells in a vibratory cleaner and see if they polish up.

 Well, I dont know. True story- well it was told to me, whether it was true, is I suppose up for debate. The smith who managed to resurrect my Mauser in 250 Savage (after I managed to break off the bolt lugs some how) tells this story.

Back in his younger days, when he and some acquaintances were in gun smithing school, they began experimenting with seeing how much pressure an old Mauser would take. One of the experiments was to put a bunch of loaded rounds into a vibratory cleaner. The theroy was that pulverizing the powder would increase the pressure or at least provide room for more powder. He would relate that at times a piece of pipe was required to get the action open.
I dont have other details, other than that his vibratory cleaner had a couple .30 caal. holes in it from rounds that detonated during to the process.
I dont think I'lll try that...but thanks for the thought! CL

Use some brass cleaner and a rag. They will clean up nicely.

I'm sure they would JD. However, I'm not that interested in shooting them :) . will need to wait 'til spring probably. Its 10 degrees in my reloading room tonight. o_O o_O CL

I like old boxes of ammunition, especially the ones with cool graphics. I have some old Peter’s 250 Sav boxes somewhere. I also have some old Newton stuff, some from Newton Arms Co., some from Western and some of the Speer brass from later on.

Cool old boxes.

As to a vibratory cleaner setting off a round, I’m sure it’s happened but I can’t imagine a rounds tip having enough momentum to hammer a primer. Guess it’s possible. I dump them in by the 100 for 223 that is going into ARs since the lube can cause grief in cold weather.

Since we are on the subject of the 250 Savage, what are your favorite powders in the upper weight hunting bullets (Before the fast twist 25's came along)?

I have one of those Ruger 77 RL’s in 250 Sav and I shot it a little with 100 grain bullets but it never seemed particularly accurate and I kind of lost interest in it so it sits somewhere in the safe

Shot mostly H4350 or IMR 4350, mostly because that what Dad was using in IMR 4064. VV N150 is Noslers "most accurate load". Still working with CFE 223, an older version of the speer manual showed good speed w/ 87 and 100 Gr bullets. CL

Neat looking old shell boxes there Cloverleaf. I used to kind of collect them but have reduced my collection quite a bit. Good of example of back in the day.

While I have yet to try them, I have load data for 100 gr bullets (BTs and SGKs) to try with Big Game and Hunter, as well as N150, 160 and 550. Have been using the Winchester, Hornady, and HSM 100 gr ammo to date in the various rifles I have/have had in this chambering. my wife is using the Remington 100 gr ammo in her rifle.
(I am sticking to the 100 gr bullets in the 250 Savage, and am/will be using the 110 gr AB in the 250AI with Re-26 and H4350, 115 gr BT in the 257 Roberts with Re-22 (need to still look at the Vihtavouri powders), and 117-128 gr in the 25 CM with VN555, H4350 and Superformance.)

Passed on an RSI in 250 Sav. 30 years ago. Couldn't afford it when the decision was rifle or Diapers...Doubt that I could afford one today but would still like to have one. CL

Thank you. I have a good supply of H4350. I also have some CFE 223
