Round Nose bullets

I'd be a little cautious with a round nose in a bigger centerfire like a 30-06 and above if your pushing the velocity for big game. Using one meant for 30-30 velocities could be...interesting. Personally I'd run some in milk jugs to see how they perform at the velocity and distance you plan on using them at.
I never had a problem running 180 gr. Sierra round nose bullets in either the .308or 30-06 on deer. Never recovered any of those bullets as they all passed through the animal. Deer usually dropped on the spot.

Well I just made a big score sorta speak. A much older friend 92 yrs old called to stop by. He gave me all his 30cal bullets for reloading. Box of 125 Sierra's, 150 gr gameking,165 game king, 165 accubonds, 165 ballistic tip (at least 200) box of 150gr Hornady interlock.
You have a great friend!

So did some load development for both the 160rn and the 180rn. Extremely happy with the 180, 53gr h4350 put 4 in a circle the size of the bottom of a pop can at 100yards. Now I'm not a precision shooter I'm a hunter and to get a shot over 100 yards in the woods of northern Wisconsin is rare so was happy. But I will say I'm not happy with the 160. Apparently the 160 doesn't like the h4350. I'm going to try varget, imr4064, and N150.

At close range those round nose and flat base bullets shoot like target bullets it's only at longer ranges that the large frontal bullet zone causes weird trajectories with the wind sheers and drag. I have found out the same way that round nose bullets tend to shoot real well 200 yards and under they also tend to go straight thru no deflections like pointed bullets.
