Dusky grouse are fine eating, but ruffed grouse are my favourite of all! Fine showing on you part. 
Daughter's first bird!
She went with me opening when we didn't see anything, skipped the day that i got my limit, but she helped me clean them and said " You know we should go out Saturday morning before i leave for Bosie" at 19 I was half thinking she would have something more important pop up(like sleeping haha) but she was serious. So we headed up the same road i got mine, pasted a few guys coming out already so wasn't expecting much. Took a couple short hikes that didn't turn up anything and were headed out when she thought she saw some so i stop the truck and she grabs her gun and bombs down the slope. While im pacing and watching from the road, I turn and look up the slope and see this one just walking thru the trees 10yds off the road, so i get her attention and have her come back up. Got her pointed in the right direction, told her to go in slow and keep her eyes open, there could be more than one. Minute or so later "boom" dead bird. I was a proud Dad, and super excited for her getting her first bird. I could tell she wanted to hunt more but i knew her sister was already going to be waiting and I wasn't going to listen to that fight. We made it home about 10 minutes before the planned departure time. Though i didn't realize she hadn't packed yet...40 minlater they were out the door and headed to the hot air balloon festival. I just finished taking care of everything and now sitting here relaxing thinking, "man that was a good time" and can't wait for antelope and deer and more birds.

Yesterday got the first deer with the x-bow of the season. Dad wanted some meat for the freezer.

Can't wait until I am recovered and go out to hunt grouse with NIB Rem 870 Wingmaster in 28 ga! And the new-to-me CZ Bobwhite G2 in 28 ga!
So for now I get live vicariously through all of you sharing your adventures here!
My Mom and her husband went out yesterday and she managed a double on spruce hens with her CZ pump in 28 ga. Although they saw a few more birds, apparently they have been educated enough in the previous two weeks of the season that they are doing their roadrunner impressions as soon as they see anyone coming! (Lots of hunting camps in the area they hunted yesterday, so they are going to try another area today.)

Great country, nice game, and a cool looking cartridge!Had a nice outing in the Northern Canadian Rockies. DIY 7 day hunt with my hunting buddy. We didn't find a ram that convinced us to shoot but we had a great time, lots of wildlife sightings, lots of miles put on the boots as we didn't fly or boat in. As much as weight is talked about, I didn't feel my Mauser 98 was a hinderance. Here are a few pictures you folks can enjoy!
Sure nice having lunch with a view eating dried bear sausage shot with the same rifle and load from the spring bear hunt.
Looks like a great adventure you and your buddy will remember for a long time!

The rams are interesting, as Susan is interested in them. And I have wanted to hunt a Corsican ram for some time.
