I had built mine with a shilen #3 1-14 @23”. Shoots 250’s very well. I’m very happy with the build.
I only tried R15 with the 225 & 250’s and didn’t have to go any further. They both shot great.
I haven’t shot anything with the 225’s but 3 years ago, I shot a moose with the 250 partitions and...
Got a chance this morning to run a few more tests loads with the RDF. I shot 4 groups working with results from last trip. I shot 2 shots then moved on to next load. Then came back for the 3rd in each. I think I softened up on the top middle dot with the 2 low. The 3rd was in the dot.
The...
Got out today to test the RDF's. I am using H4350, Laupa brass and federal primers. My rifle is a 260 with a 23" Shilen 1-8 barrel. I read where others were getting good results .030 off the lands. I had to go to Bergers suggestion on finding your OL due to not finding anything quick. For me the...
Yes, 23" shilen. I have H4350 loaded with fed primers. I have others powders but will start with that. When I find a load I'll try Winchester primers to check for difference.
They are long, where I may not be able to use them in my hunting rifle due to OL restrictions. I'm using my target rifle...
I am currently trying to work up a load with the RDF's and a 260. I haven't tried the Bergers yet so can't offer anything on them. I'll post when I can get a range day or two. I hope they do well, I picked up a bunch of them
Thanks on the comments. Congrats to others who have also shared pic's and stories. That's what it should be about. Sharing with others who may not get a chance to get out and enjoy the outdoors. I remember as a teenager reading years worth of old Pennsylvania Game News and enjoying the stories...
Broke the ice that has been following me for a few years. It seemed like everything I did something didn’t work out. From past experience, I believe in cycles when hunting, where sometimes everything you do works out. Then like the past few years, where nothing works out. I haven’t hunted as...
With R22, 60.5-61 grains shot very well in my Remington with the 22" barrel. That's with both ballistic tips and partitions. The velocity wasn't as high as listed. When I shot the same loads in the Weatherby with the 24" barrel, the velocity was a bit higher and also shot well. The extra 2"...
Very nice. I've been thinking about building something similar. The colors of the stock are nice too.
I just got a McMillan with a grey combo for a build. Very classy. Good luck with it.
I have a 35 Whelen and a 260 that have Shilen #3's. Both are finished at 23". Both shoot very well. The 260 I had cerakoted sniper grey which came out pretty nice. I think you will be pretty happy.
I also had tried Damonts from years ago as my father had used them while working at the airport during the winters. The guys there had swore by them. They were good but you had to be real careful with keeping them out of the dryer. I also tried Bluejohns that I got from Ravenwear a bunch of...
In my old 06, I had to switch around powders with Noslers and Barnes. Each liked a different one. You could try R19 or R22. R22 worked for me with any of the Noslers but 165/168 Barnes liked R19
Check Brownells, they had some Hornady and Norma. Graff & Sons also had some Hornady.
Also keep checking Shooters Pro Shop., I had picked up some Nosler there when it became available.
I haven't seen any Winchester for some time
