    1 in 9" .277 barrel

I have a 1:8 .277 barrel now. I shoot the.270wea and before I never did good accuracy with factory 130grain ammo from Weatherby. Now on the other hand I get match precision. If one is to have a 1:9 made make it 1:8 while you are at it. Nosler 150grain ABLR and with others like Bergers the .277...

    .300 H&H

I can only praise the .300 H&H. I know there are more powerful, more accurate .30`s out there but the old cartridge still stands it ground against the newest. Here in 2025 it can celebrate its 100 year birthday, then its a true classic. So long there is a desire for a m98 or a Pre 64 Win out...

    Cape Buff & Plains Game

..get the itching out of your system. Take the .375 &H and blast away. You`ll like it. Take it on a walk-up hunt on warthogs or whatever that pops up.

    Cape Buff & Plains Game

Well..if the choice is to be in Africa for 4 days and hunt/shoot a buffalo or spend 14 days hunting small stuff I would take hunting small stuff at any time. The duration(length of staying) once you are in hunting internationally will give you more fun and experience.

    Flight/layover

12hours is a long layover. Plan a little trip outside the airport for a few hours to get some blood circulation.. 12 hours in an airport is boring. Yes!. The airline store you rifle for you during the period of your connecting flights.

    Cape Buff & Plains Game

Hey Guy. It would so great for you to go to the BIG A... For gemsbok a .30-06 will do just fine...actually a .30-06 will get you going for 99% of all the african game. Use heavy +200grain for wilderbeast, eland, kudu etc. For impalas, springbok, warthogs etc a superfast 130grain will be...

    New Double Rifle decision

I would say caliberwise the .450 Nitro express. Easy to reload and flexible with bulletweights. Shoot 350grain spizers for deer, boar etc and 480-500grain for heavy stuff. The .450 is often build on a smaller frame than the .470Nitro also. Name, brand or make of the gun is just who ever you like.

    30-06 ? Dad was right!

It´s very difficult to argue against .30-06. Lovely caliber. Thanks for sharing Guy!.

    Your "most used" rifles???

I admit here in writing I haven´t been out for much hunting since I returned from Africa in 2015. The few times I have been out it was with my .300 H&H and a single time with the .270Wea. However that rifle I have that has seen most use is my .333Jeffery..Lots of dent, marks and worn finish

303 British loads (Updated bear hunting)

Thanks for sharing all this `303 stuff`. I have longed for a .303 rifle in a long time. Love to have a Long-Lee rifle of the early 1900s. Like one posted said:" Tons of history". I have thought often to bring a .303 on a plains game hunting in Africa. I know of a few places in Freestate where...

Africa-Two rifles-one load for each rifle

    First Safari

Hi Jim. As you write your .338Win will do it all. However hunting springbok on foot on the open plains your .264win might shine. I would load 110-120 grains in that caliber. Set the scope on 300m and know your ballistic out to 400meters(440yards). A .22-250 with 50 grain bullet will kill a...

    Favourite Rifles, Cartridges

It´s difficult for me to say which is my favorit, but more of what I hold special. My old model 1893 Marlin in .30-30 is a gun and caliber I hold special. My first real centerfire cartridge was the .30-30 in a Win94 from the 70s. With an American leveraction rifle it´s where it all started for me.
