This is a 140gr Hornady Monoflex from a handloaded 30-30. This is the 30-30 version, not the 308 Marlin Express one. Loaded over Leverevolution powder and CCI primer in Hornady brass. I believe muzzle velocity was around 2200 fps from the 20" barrel of my buddy's stainless Marlin 336.

This bullet was recovered from a 90 lb doe shot at about 10 yards. My buddy was hunting on the ground and a doe popped out (he was hunting on a trail with thick woods around him) around 30 yards or so and started walking straight towards him. Luckily he already had his gun up on shooting sticks. He shot right in the chest as it faced him. She crumpled at the shot and the bullet was found in one of her hams. He sent me some pics but no good frontal pics. Bullet weighed 140 grs. Not bad at all!

I’ve been migrating over to mostly solid copper bullets for hunting. The do their job well.

They're overkill for leveraction speeds but you can't argue with results. I'd like to try the monoflex in my 45-70.

Depending on what NewYorkistan wants to do this 2025 hunting season, I may be looking into these.
My Model 94 loves the Hornady FTX bullets, but if they decide to go non-lead I’ll need something else.
I find it fun to develop a new load and I’ve heard some good things about these including this post.
I also wonder about how lead particles affect us and if it’s a real concern or not?
Now I just have to find some….

The FTX in the 3030 is indeed a good thing. It is my go to in that cartridge, but I have to say the performance of that bullet above gets a man thinking.

Unless you’re eating up to the bullet hole, I think you’re pretty fine and less of an issue with bullets that retain their weight.
