Few weeks back I had placed ads on here and 24hr campfire wanting to buy a Winchester Mod 70 barreled action. I was given a stock off of one that belonged to my friend Don who passed away in February. He had swapped stocks then sold his rifle. I bought what I was looking for, put in his stock. Loaded up some rounds of a put together load just to get on paper and get a feel for the rifle. This load is way below maximum but grouped well .6in and could be used by the grandkids or even paw paw. The rifle shows potential. Did a ladder test with H4831sc and Nosler 130gr BT. So I'll see how the loads chosen perform next trip to the range. By the way, Don's rifle was a 270win also. I think he would approve.

Played around with this rifle some, got hot and put it aside. Finally got back to it and this morning was cooler so headed to the range. I've duplicated this load so if I don't find anything else this will hunt.

Not that you need it I see a bit more accuracy higher in charge weight. I’ve seen the groups and chrono numbers flatline a few times with a 130 anything and H4831.

55 grains of IMR4350 or 59 grains of H4831 and basically any good 130 grain bullet have always cooked well for me in the good ol’ .270!

A Model 70 Featherweight in .270 WCF flinging 130 grain bullets is a match made in heaven. Ol’ Cactus Jack would be proud!
