Just recently picked up a M70 SG in this chambering and was able to find some Retumbo along with 125gr PT. Seems like a good combination to start with. Has anyone used this load and what was your starting charge? I’m kinda limited for bullet selection due to the 1-9” twist. But also have some 140gr BT and 130gr AB.

all of those should work fine in the 9 twist. the heaviest i've shot so far in my dad's pre64 mod70 264wm was sierra 140sbt's using 61.3gr of imr4831. after 2,500+ rounds i stopped shooting it. now i have 2 more 264wm's. post64 and a custom built from a 110 action w/32" 7.5t McGowen for sierra 150smk's. retumbo and h1k would be the easiest to find, but with imr4831 very difficult to find and nearly impossible to get my 3rd choices would be rs magnum, v560/565/568's as i have no idea if winchseter hd or match along with rs grand would work.

the 140bt's should work in the 9, but the 140ablr's per nosler's site and box states 8 as a minimum. same for sierra 140smk's.

I’m thinking the PT will work pretty good. Should be perfect for deer.

i don't hunt, so i don't load for game excluding p-dogs and pigs/hogs and maybe coyotes.

Those Super Grade's are nice rifles...too bad they don't make them left handed...hope you enjoy yours!
The 130 gr AB would make a dandy deer/antelope/sheep load!
Should be able to reach out and touch them with that flat shooting combo!

Nosler' Guide shows 63.0 to 67.0 gr of Retumbo with the 130 gr AB, in a 24" barrel, w/ the max load being the most accurate. (they do not list Retumbo for the 125 or 140 gr bullets.)

QL shows 76.4 gr of Retumbo with the 125 gr Partition will net approx. 64K psi and 3325 fps in a 24" barrel.
With the 140 gr BT, it shows approx. 64.3K psi and 3166 fps from 73.0 gr of Retumbo in a 24" barrel.
(Sorry, I am not sure how to input for 1:9 twist so cannot say how that will affect you.)

you can as far as i know on ql twist or even primer used. not even sure if twist effects velocity or those within 1 rate of twist higher or lower? grt might have that option

One thing to check on when deciding on bullets to run is your altitude. Bison ballistics has a great stability calculator that I use all of the time. Coming from the high country, I can get away with longer bullets that others wouldn’t be able to run at sea level. It’s just one more thing to consider before you get started. I know because it came into play when I was selecting what to run my my stepfather’s p64 264 Win that’s twisted 1-9, as well.
Enjoy your work up because the 264 Win is one hell of a fine cartridge!

couldn't say for sure, but the hornady 160 wlll.

The 125gr PAR bullet works well. I use 65gr of IMR4831 for 3422FPS in my rifle.

I think it could, I know Norma loads them for 6.5x55 so assume they will stablize at that twist which is 8.6...

Absolutely. It’s bullet length not weight which governs stability. With the 264 you’d stabilize the 147 ELD as well. Maybe not to get full BC but it works in the 9 with that cartridge.

I used the 125 PT and 130 AB with Retumbo in my older Classic. I believe I was around 3350 with the 26” barrel. Still haven’t finalized my 130 AB load for my 24” 264 with 130 ABs but it was pretty promising the last time I had it out. Retumbo is excellent in the 264.
