Had three days scheduled for a Wyoming antelope hunt. Then a funeral scratched a day and then there were two. Kids stuff intervened and then it was one. . .
Two of us killed bucks with no trouble. My buddy killed a taller one than mine but still pretty shape. I passed a dozen that looked just like mine before I decided we didn’t have time to keep “shopping.” The animals were typically not spooky and were very busy with the rut.
I killed mine when we accidentally got between his does and him as he chased another buck over a hill. When he came back I was waiting. I had expected a 400 yard shot and had my 28 nosler so of course he came around at under 200 and was still closing when I shot him. Should have had my 7mm-08! Hit quartering to me and I placed the bullet in front of the near shoulder, exited behind the off shoulder. He sprinted a hard circle at full speed and was down and done. Ruined no meat and my buddy is a big game taxidermist so the skinning was fast and precise. Didn’t see any sage grouse or coyotes this trip. Lots of antelope in this unit and a good selection of bucks. A car smashed a nice buck while we were hunting out on the main road. Photos make him look a bit odd, he was actually extremely symmetrical, nice mass, pretty shape. A very typical “representative” antelope and a great Day spent with my friend.IMG_9291.jpegIMG_9301.jpegIMG_9307.jpeg

I was hesitant to apply for this tag this year because I already had Africa to look forward to. Thought about saving my antelope points for next year so I had something to look forward to then as well.
I’m hoping instead that next year one of my daughters will draw, I know where to go and numbers look good so it’s time again to burn my girls points and get them the experience of Wyoming antelope.

Nice Antelope! Encouraging that you saw a few.. Where abouts were you- public land or private? CL
