I am loading for a factory Winchester m70 in 7mm wsm. I already have some 175 ablr’s and rl26. Would you expect these to stabilize well in a 1:9.5 twist barrel or should I look for some 168’s? Any other concerns you might have loading this long of a bullet in the wsm? Nosler load data shows this option so I’m hoping it would be ok

All thoughts are appreciated

Nosler’s loading data for the WSM with a 9.5:1 , so I would say you’re good to go.

That seems like a fair assumption to me too, but I was wondering if there were other considerations- perhaps the BC may be compromised with the slower twist, or if there were other constraints that could limit this combination. For instance, Nosler gives data for this bullet in the 280ai also but only loads the 150 ablr. I’m sure there’s a reason for that.

The 175 ablr (if it shoots in this gun) could have great potential. Alliant’s website shows about 3050fps with rl26. That is nipping at the heals of my 28 nosler with far less powder

Thanks for the response.

I think the 9.5 is marginal for 175 ABLRs and probably not quite perfect for the 168’s. They are long bullets. I tried the 168’s a bunch in my 9.5 WSM and they were never consistent. Now in my 8 twist Mashburn they both hammer with excellent accuracy.

Love the little 7 WSM though, lots of other great bullets that I know work well.
