I am loading for a factory Winchester m70 in 7mm wsm. I already have some 175 ablr’s and rl26. Would you expect these to stabilize well in a 1:9.5 twist barrel or should I look for some 168’s? Any other concerns you might have loading this long of a bullet in the wsm? Nosler load data shows this option so I’m hoping it would be ok

All thoughts are appreciated

Nosler’s loading data for the WSM with a 9.5:1 , so I would say you’re good to go.
That seems like a fair assumption to me too, but I was wondering if there were other considerations- perhaps the BC may be compromised with the slower twist, or if there were other constraints that could limit this combination. For instance, Nosler gives data for this bullet in the 280ai also but only loads the 150 ablr. I’m sure there’s a reason for that.

The 175 ablr (if it shoots in this gun) could have great potential. Alliant’s website shows about 3050fps with rl26. That is nipping at the heals of my 28 nosler with far less powder

Thanks for the response.

I think the 9.5 is marginal for 175 ABLRs and probably not quite perfect for the 168’s. They are long bullets. I tried the 168’s a bunch in my 9.5 WSM and they were never consistent. Now in my 8 twist Mashburn they both hammer with excellent accuracy.

Love the little 7 WSM though, lots of other great bullets that I know work well.

The SJB358 analysis is really detailed to make it a perfect choice for the 168. Longer loadings in WSM may require careful attention to magazine depth for consistent accuracy.

Welcome aboard PV. I’m one of those who believes the ABLR is a bullet possessed by evil spirts, having little to no success with them. Scotty (SJB358) has been able to get them to shoot in a variety of rifles and cartridges. I have had great success with the traditional or original Accubonds loading them in every rifle I have loaded for except the 577 nitro.
Good luck with your efforts and do keep us posted.
Have a great Thanksgiving

My 280 AI has a Hart 1:9 twist and shoots the 150 and 168 gr ABLR lights out.

My Ruger #1A in 7x57 has a 1 in 10" twist and handles the Hornady 175 gr. spitzer reasonably well. Bullet holes in the target appear normally rounded. My Ruger #1B in 7MM Rem. Mag. does a little better probably because of the higher velocity. No idea what the twist rate is in my .280 Rem. but seems to shoot tight groups with everything I've except the 150 gr. ABLR. FWIW, I've never gotten that bullet to shoot worth spit in any 7MM I own. Originally, I got them for the M70 Featherweight and a custom Mauser rifles chambered to the 7x57 as I thought it would work out and possibly gain a bit more range. BTW, the custom Mauser has an 8.6" twist.
Probably what I would do is give them a try and see if you can find a happy place. If not, then if you want that weight go for the AccuBond. Not a 7MM but I run the 200 gr. Speer Hot Core in all five of my .300 Win. Mags and it is not only accurate as all get out in all five rifle, but does a fine number on elk way out yonder. Accurate? All five .300 mags will do .75" or smaller at 100 yards.

The only way to know for sure is to try them in your rifle...
As above, the regular AccuBond shines in many rifles, calibers and cartridges, while the ABLR can be rather finnicky.
While I have not tried them in all of my rifles, to date, the best performance has been in my 6.5 PRC shoots the ABLR (142 gr) into less than 1/2 MOA groups.

I've got some 6.5 142 ABLR and some 140 SB bullets on the way. I plan on working up loads for the 6.5 RPM.
This will be a fun winter project for me since I finished the pole barn interior AND it's now heated!
