300 win mag 1:11 twist

It's possible that you should be fine with a 200 grain in the 1:11 twist, you should be close to the end of the stability threshold. I use a 1:10 twist on mine and it loves the 180 grain AB / BT. Put them on paper and see what it tells you. Keep us posted.

is there a chance I won’t find a decent group out of the load test ? Starting at 65gr ADI 2209 to 68gr. Sorry for the dumb. Question but in Australia these bullets are $180 per 50pk. Would it be safer to go the 180gr Partition or AccuBond

Hey guys I am looking for some advise I am looking at working up a load for the 200gr Partition and was wondering if my 1-11 twist barrel would be ok for this grain weight
How many rounds down the barrel?
What elevation will you be hunting at?
I am thinking with the speed you will have a 11T will work.
The Partition is likely to stabilize better than the AccuBond will
What kind of accuracy are you going after?
What will be your maximum hunting distance?

They’ll work fine Pat. Even the 200 AB will work in the 11. I’ve seen 208 AMaxs work fine in 1-12 308’s.

A few friends have Echols Legends in various 300’s that are all 1-11 twist guns.

I think you’ll be fine.

Hey mate, will be hunting in Australia and looking for MOA and max range will be 350 yards, wanting to work up a load for Sambar stags and red deer stags and also buffalo so thinking the 200gr PT will be useful for all three of those. I am currently using 178gr ELDX and get half MOA currently but wanting a more premium hunting round only thing is they cost $180 here for 50 so dam expensive but I am sure I will find a node between min and max load hopefully

Since you were getting 1/2 MOA with the ELD-X, MOA shouldn't be a problem with the Partition.
Don't let the cost of bullets get in your head.
It is more important to get a good load and then a solid zero.

How many rounds through the barrel since it was new?

Cost doesn’t really worry me it’s just I don’t want to buy them and not get a good loading out of it, still undecided on the Partition or AccuBond but rifle has about 70 rounds through it, got it not long ago

My guess is that your 11T barrel will stabilize the Partitions just fine.
Given the distances you will be hunting at, I would stay with the Partition, and not look back.
Nothing wrong with trying the AB as well if you want.

In working with a 300 Ultra Mag (Sako) with a 1:11 twist, I found 200 grain bullets to be marginal. Loads had be at or near max velocity and groups would still start opening beyond 200 yards. I finally gave up and went to 180 grain bullets with much better results. It may have been the rifle or these particular bullets, they were not PTs. This is my two cents on 200s with 1:11 twist.

I have five rifles chambered to the .300 Wn. Mag. Four are Ruger #1s and the other a Winchester M70. I too wanted to go with a 200 gr. bullet and did the initial work using the 200 gr. Speer Hot Core. The good news is all five will shoot that bullet sub MOA well past what anyone will be shoot at game. On its first time out, the M70 took a fat cow elk at a lasered with the Speer bullet.
I later worked up a load with the 200 gr. Partition and it shoots to basically the same point of impact. If I were to shoot both loads into the same group, the Speers would hit dead center and the Partition about .75" to the right of the center of the Sprer group. The entire group combined would be about 1.25 to 1.5" at the worst. FWIW, I can do this not only with the .300 Mag. but with my . 270 and .280 Rem.
Velocity with the 200 gr. Speer is 2880 FPS but, I use a powder no longer available. Unless you have a supply of the now very long gone Winchester magnum Rifle powder, (WMR) there's not much use passing the data along. I diduse Winchester brass and WLR primer. Groups were not as good with the WLRM primers.
Edited to add. I neglected to add that all my .300 Mags have 1 in 10" twists. However, I do have two 30-06s with 1 in 12" twist and I can get reasonable accuracy from 220 gr. round nose bullets (Sierra) I've tried. On rifle is a custom that is supposed to be 1 in 12 but may be even slower. Very accurate with the 165 AccuBond. The other is a Husqvarna M640 with 1 in 12" from the factory. I tried the 220s in both and the custom was 2 to 2.5" at best while the 640 usually stayed with an inch to 1.25". Current the 640 is stuck in a cobbled up stock but I have a blank on hand and just have to catch my gunsmith when he's not all that busy.

Paul,

Speaking of .308 220 gr RN SP bullets, my Nosler M21 308 Win has a 22" 1:10 twist and shoots the Sierra 220 gr RN SP very well. The target is 100 yds and the gong is 250 yds.
My MV was 2448 fps which is faster than what Remington shows for their 30-06 220 gr SPCL load.

My 308 Win has a 1:12 twist and shoots 208 A-max and Berger 210 VLD just fine.
With the added velocity of the 300 WM I believe you will be just fine with the 200gr.
