Federal’s 7mm Backcountry

running those kinds of pressure, how long will the throat last? or have they invented an erosion resistant barrel steel that I'm not aware of?

My opinion only, throat erosion issues will be minimal. Why? The smaller powder charges being used, while at higher pressures, reduce the length of time and volume of gas that cause your throat to get torched . MOST throat erosion is an issue when you are shooting a hot barrel repeatedly of course....i.e. a .220 swift on a prairie dog hunt or some such. This won't happen with most people with this cartridge, and certainly not me. The old .264 WM which was rough on throats was not as rough as many thought....I have cleaned several that were fouled badly, but the throats were just fine. My opinion only, but time will tell.

UPDATE: Went to the Range today well armed with new (reformulated by Federal replacements which are the "on the run" loads now ) ammunition from Federal. They had promptly provided me with three boxes of ammunition after I spoke with them regarding my stuck case. Today I shot Two different loads: 1) The Federal 170 grain Terminal Ascent load in the plated reloadable cases, and 2) The 175 grain Fusion Tipped Federal Factory Load. Shot first unsuppressed. No issues at all regarding bolt lift or extraction with either load. My Weatherby 307 seems to much prefer the 175 grain fusion loads. Scope is 4.5-14x Leupold. Photos below. SD's were good, and velocities were very close to what is printed on the Federal Box. Slightly exceeding with one load, with my 20" barreled Weatherby. Bottom line for ME, I would not hesitate to hunt with the 175 grain Fusion load tomorrow. I am purchasing a MDT HNT26 chassis and drop my307 action (from the rifle used to shoot these groups) right in and hunt with it! I should have bought the HNT26 version initially, but the wood was so beautiful on the rifle I bought it as is.
I've been hearing so many good things about that fusion tipped round in multiple calibers. I'm very curious on it now.

Good Video, tests with all 5 factory loads, AND incredible short barrel performance. My two cents, but this is a cartridge that will be here to stay.

Me too. In the video I posted it was the most accurate Factory load and they tested ALL 5 factory loads. I have only shot two of Federal's offerings. I asked the Federal rep who helped me with the replacement ammunition if they were selling those bullets yet as components....the answer is not yet as they are selling lots of loaded ammunition with them for now. When production catches up, he thought they would offer the bullets to the public also.

I recently bought a new Christensen rifle in 7mm Backcountry.

In 98 degree Alabama heat and humidity I experienced a flattened primers and very difficult bolt lift.

Spooked me .I’m done with this one.

Please read my post about my situation and replacement ammunition….this has been addressed! Don’t give up! Feel free to contact me directly…I think I can help! :)

That's probably a Christensen thing, not a cartridge thing. My wife has a 300 WSM in a Ridgeline that does the exact same thing no matter how lite I load it or what ammo I use. I've shot roughly a box of ammo in 3 different visits out of a Weatherby Alpine in 7BC with no bolt or primer issues.

This is good to hear. I asked the owner of my LFS if he can check with his rep on getting me just the bullets. he still hasn't got me an answer, I'm sure it will be the same haha. I've talked to a number of different people over different rifle manufactures and calibers... this Fusion Tipped is a very consistent, accurate factory load. I'm watching it close for sure. I really like Federal Ammo, terminal ascent, I hear the new Remington Core Lokt Tipped is made by this same company (parent owned company) and has a lot of the same technology in it. If that is true, I'm going to buy some of those too haha.

American reloading had the tipped bullets not long ago in stock you can watch for some pulled bullets.

You can also try the regular fusion bullets they tend to shoot lights out as well.

I like the regular Fusion's and they use to by my go to for breaking in a barrel or getting a scope close before dialing in on my preferred load. The cost of Fusion's went up and I stopped using them. My intent and desire for the Fusion tipped is just in that round itself though.
