Just finished watching the Alpine Biathlon. Man they are good to say the least. Over an hour of cross country skiing with their rifle slung across their back. Oh, and along the way they have to stop and shoot multiple times and targets with better accuracy than I’ve seen at some PRS matches, with millions of people watching. I don’t know how to do the training and determination justice with words. I’ll just say damn.

If you live near one of the training areas you can try it out. They rent or lend the rifles and skis and give classes. One of my friends who was a downhill instructor found out she was good at it late in life even tho she hadn’t fired a gun before. They fire 22 shorts.

I’d die of a heart attack. Lol

It's an incredible sport! Love watching it every time the winter Olympics come along. Washington state had a pretty strong and active biathlon program. I could never manage to get the time from work to start competing. I wouldn't have been at anywhere near Olympic level but I was a decent cross-country skier and decent with a rifle. I think that I'd have done reasonably well at the local level. We did some of that at the Mountain Warfare Training Center with skis and our M-16's - that was a hoot with some guys who'd been skiing for only a few days. A local shop was selling some sort of inexpensive version of a biathlon rifle 25 years ago but since I didn't have a use for it, I didn't buy.

Now I'm content to just watch those guys and gals ski so hard and shoot so well.

Guy
