I’ve found it hard to beat a red dot on shotguns , both of mine wear them.
My M4 Bennelli and Rem 870 both have Red Dots.
My old Browning A5 Slug Gun I can’t bring my self to it to drill holes for mount . So it’s a safe queen !

I bought the Delta Point Pro to mount on my Rem 870 Tactical when I had it.
Once I got my LH 870 Slug Gun, I sold the RH Tactical.
The older Slug Gun is not drilled and tapped, and I was advised by the gunsmith not to do so to mount the red dot. So it just wears its original rifle sights. Still works, but with aging eyes, the red dot would be nice in low light conditions, and against black hair in the dark timber.

Been regretting selling the Tactical...and may replace it yet.
Partly due to being right handed, and having trained so many years in quickly reloading a RH 870 for my Problem Wildlife certification, with that muscle memory ingrained, I am much quicker and more proficient in quick reloading of the RH pump, than I am with my LH. I can keep the RH model butt in my shoulder pocket with my left hand and reload quickly with my right hand, with just some rotation of the firearm to expose the bottom loading gate, or inserting a single shell into the open action.

Made Specifically for REM 870 and DPP.
If you are RH why would you even think of LH shotgun.
My 870 is 1980 version it’s a great steel receiver perfect for this base ! 2 holes just south of barrel extension and Red Loc Tite !

I was just going to ask you what mount you are using. I had wanted to add a red dot to my 870 home defense gun but couldn’t find much. I did read several comments saying not to drill and tap the top receiver which I didn’t fully understand.
Thanks for posting your base.

If it’s an aluminum receiver I could understand not to drill . But the Ithaca 37 and Rem 870 steel is excellent place to drill and mount. Just make sure you do it south of Barrel extension not interfere with screws inside and removing the barrel.

FYI this mount has the heavy duty screws !
My 870 has the Cylinder 18.5” which provides tad better accuracy with Brenneke Slugs than the 20” Rem IC Slug Barrel I have.

For quick loading you insert one round into chamber either over the top or underneath .
With LH while keeping your RH trigged hand in place.
Vice versa if your LH and have LH shotgun.
My preference is over the top ! Keeping my rounds on left side of body if not using side saddle for RH.
The DPP works great on 870 especially for Bear protection used in conjunction with a weapon light at night.
