What is your favourite metric cartridge?

I don’t currently own any rifles chambered in a metric cartridge. But I would have to get the mighty 8mm Remington Magnum should I decide to subject myself to the awkward metric system without force.
I had a big 8 for a number of years. Elk killing son of a gun. Eventually ran into issues getting good bullets so had it rebarrelled into a 338 Jarrett. No shortage of good bullets now, the 8mm is a great one.

I started life with an old sporterised mauser 96 in 6.5x55. Shot a lot of game with that rifle. Then moved to a 7mmRM which would be one of my all time favourite cartridges. It just gets stuff done. I have worn the barrel out on a 6mm Rem which is such an underrated cartridge. Those little 95 grain ballistic tips were an outstanding match in my rifle. I have 7mm08 which almost seems to be my go to for most shooting these days. Mild accurate and deadly at the distances I tend to shoot game at. And then there is the gun that just makes me giggle whenever I shoot it. Super accurate and has some "giddy up" on game and that is the old 9.3x62. Plenty of good brass, a 250 AccuBond and anything inside 300 yards is pretty easy. Another very underrated cartridge.

I had to think about this for a little bit, and I think I’m going to go against the grain of this thread.

My favorite rifle cartridge is a .270, cartridges I love are ones that sit in or around the 7mm family 270/7mm Rem Mag/PRC/280 etc etc.

But if I had to choose my absolute favorite of the metric cartridges I would choose the 9mm Luger. It’s the nothing special plinking round, but everyone has a handful of pistols / rifles in it and gobs of ammo on hand.

Well I have a 6MM Remington and 7 MM Rem. Mag in Ruger #1s, the "B" model and a Ruger #1A in 7x57. Then there is the .280 Rem. which once carried the name 7MM Express. Sll are nice guns and all are very accurate except the 7x57, Still at 1.25" on average it's more than good enough to hunt with.

In the past few years I' ve gained a lot of interest in the 7x57. I have three rifles so chambered, a custom Mauser dressed up to look like a pre-WW2 German sporter, a Winchester M70 XTR and the previously mentioned Ruger #1. Both bolt rifles will shoot one inch or less depending on the load. My favorite load that shoots well in all three rifle is a stiff charge of RL17, Winchester or Remington brass, Winchester WLR primer and the 150 gr. Nosler Partition. Average velocity in the Ruger and M70 is 2800 FPS and 2880 FPS in the Mauser which has a longer barrel/
Now if I could just find an outfitter that will handle a hunt for the handicapped, I could find out just how well the 7x57 works in the field.

Although some firearms i have are metric labeled i converted them........I sprinkled some water on them and said, "you were made metric and now you're imperial"🤔🫢🤣

When I heard metric I also think European like some have mentioned already, so I won't comment on the American cartridges. While I don't have a ton of experience with it yet, I absolutely love the 6.5x55 and shot my biggest buck ever with it last year. It's also in a Tikka, the stainless Hunter version but my wood is plain! 140gr Partitions are hammers out of the gun.
