Building a 338 win mag for Plains Game

I have a similar set up but would suggest a 26" barrel to get 50-75 "free" feet per second. My barrel is tight chambered and approaches weatherby velocities. I also have a .375 ruger, but find the the .338 more versitil on all but the biggest game. Kevin.

    243 90AB H4350

Becareful trying to compare Nosler and Hodgdon-- many times apples and oranges! Paradoxically, you can use either if you stay with their receipe. I just worked up a "new" load for my 243win with 90gr ballistic tips and settled on 47.2gr H4831sc @ -.045 from the lands. Hodgdon max is 48.0gr...

    375 Rifle Weight

I've weighed my 375ruger with leupold vx2, sling, and three cartridges---exactly nine pounds. That seems almost perfect to me, whether I'm shooting 300's, 260's, or 250's. This gun likes them all--the faster the better.

Since no one has chimed in, I'll give you my limited experience with testing the fireball. Firstly, I've only tried two powders since I could NEVER acquire any A1680! No matter, these two powders made me fall in love with reloading. Lil gun @14.8gr shot .198" groups, was "dirty" requiring...

    Difference in bullets?

I would shoot them in their "groups" and note the differences. I backed into a similar discovery with my 264 win after exhausting many other causes of inaccuracy and sizeable expense; yes I believe they will cause sizeable group variation and major grief/lack of confidence/perplexion for you...

    Something has happened...

This is "same story, second verse" as this very thing happened to me over 40 yrs. ago! I was moving a perfectly good weaver V12 from a HARD kicking 270win to a 243win because I liked the scope but hated the recoil. After the move, that scope never held zero again even though "visual"...
