Well, I do know that the big rifle will kill little critters and the small caliber rifles will not kill the big critters. I would probably go with a 375 H & H because of its popularity and ammunition availability on most continents. It will kill elephants to squirrels.
You're right JD. The flite control wads are very tight and it is a real possibility that you can miss. I practice a lot to ensure the shot is spot on. These loads from federal are hammers. I have shot remingtons hevi shot #6 and their duplex 4 x 6. They are very adequate, but not quite as tight...
I have an 11-87 3" with a 21" barrel. The gun really performs well with a Hastings 0.655" extended choke tube. I also like Federal #6 shot 2 oz. turkey with the flite control wad. Very tight at 25 yards and on out to 40.
It is a laser indeed. I have a 338 win and a 300 win and believe me this 257 is a laser. I have not had the chance to shoot a deer with the bergers yet. I just got a 338 win in a Vanguard and hunted with it this year and killed 2 deer with it and one with my revolver. I'm very anxious to hunt...
Rl 25 also works great with this bullet. It is flatter than other bullets at distance. I've tried all the 100 grainers. The 110 accubond is really great at 100 yards, but does not perform well for me at distances past 200 yards, Groups open. The berger is stellar at long range. It is flatter for...
I shot it today. This rifle is on. I changed scopes and sighted back in.
My load is 73.0 grains H1000 115 berger 9 1/2M rem primer or a fed 215M. My oal is 3.360". They both work great. 3292fps av velocity. I can drive it much faster, but group size increases. Never more than 1" though. I...
You can't go wrong with an Accumark. I waited 35 years to finally but a Weatherby and it was a mistake. I wish now that my first rifle was a Weatherby. I have an Accumark in 257 wby mag and it is a laser that shoots bughole groups. 3/4" groups at 300 yards are normal.
That's great velocity out of that 275. I was thinking 2500fps or so. I may have to give some heavy's a try. I'll start with some 250's first. My rifle groups ok with the 200's and a little better with 215's and 225's. I may have to move heavier to close up those groups.
Great groups beretzs. What your velocity on those 338-275's. I'm curious because I'm currently working with a 338 Vanguard. Grouping is great with that big bullet.
Stay with the .2's -.3's. You really have a shooter there. An animal will never know the difference if you hunt with the rifle. Remember a 6.5 - 284 is an extremely efficient cartridge and uses powder well. That's why is so popular versus a 264. You really have a shooter there and go to the...
Teknys, you sure have a shooter. That's a great shooting rifle and great shooting on your part. Five shot groups really tell you where you are.
You're right super-7. The new vanguard trigger is adjustable, but once you get the trigger down low enough, the safety won't engage. I tried everything and still could not get the creep out of the thing or get it down to 3 lbs or so. The timney trigger is great and it is a 3 position one. What...
I don't think anyone disagrees with you Dr. Mike. His original question is for the 180 grain bullet in the 338 win mag though. I have one and am curious of his results. IMR 4007 is also a fast powder and works well with the light bullets in the 338 winnie.
I just got me a 338 winnie and it is...
Go with the Weatherby and don't look back. I just got a Vanguard in 338 win mag and it is a shooter. I replaced the stock and the trigger and spent the same money as if I had bought a remington. IMHO, big greens quality control has gone south. They are not the rifles they used to be. Change the...
I agree with everybody else. Lose the aluminum rod and get a stainless steel coated rod. Also use a bore guide from the chamber end when cleaning.
Tough luck, but a 300 wby mag hits hard. Go with a Bell & Carlson medalist stock and don't look back. It has a full length bedding block in it and can handle the recoil. I"m having great luck with the one that I just bought.
chet, H380 is worth a try with the 180 grain part. Hodgdon list it as very suitable with the light bullet.
Starting load is 65.0 grains for 2886 fps and a max charge of 72.5 for 3111fps and 51,100 cup.
This load is worth a try and let us know how she shoots. I have a 338 wm and I'm just...
