Nice Point Ryan! Sounds like you have your science in reloading down to a beautiful fine art.
Before I invest too much more into that beautiful word called "accuracy", I want to see if the money spent ($80.00) for this last set of tools will do anything for me and my rifle...
When I was measuring COAL using the base to tip method, I was getting inconsistencies up to +- .004. I first started thinking my die (RCBS) was geting loose or incorrect since I measure every finished round. I then realized that the inconsistency was in the tip length. Well...... or maybe not...
Okay!!
DrMike responded as soon as I posted and I was able to give him a call.
I got some very clear knowledge and discernment.
I have measured 10 times to make sure my measuring technique is giving me a very close consistent measurement
My consistent measurement (base of case to ogive) is...
I sent a question to DRMike and he answered nicely but I am still confused and DRMike has gone offline so I am posting here in case anyone comes online Satruday afternoon\evening. I want to reload according to any new spec for tomorrow morning load testing. (Please do not take offense DRMike and...
Darn good point regarding the Lead Sled!! The sled stays in the car this next time out. This will also give me a chance to feel the 338 with just the muzzle brake. Let's hope I don't start flinching after a few shots like Guy mentioned.
Yeah I know I am looking for near...
I saw the excellent response regarding weight of meat after processing. I have only hunt big game back in the Adirondackmtns where one drags his gutted game back to the truck or home and then hangs the game for weight.
In Colorado and probably in many other places, the game, "especially Elk?"...
Hey Guy,
You are right on the money. Out of no-where, after the first 3 shots, the wind come off my left and stayed with me for the rest of the day. I guestimate a 7-9 mph right across the range.
The trigger on my Weatherby Vanguard is the sweetest trigger "I" have ever felt and owned on a...
Okay -- Went back out to the range today (you knew I would)
Reloaded 10 rounds for each of following:
72 grain at 3.336 (Made two variable changes: Lowered gr charge and also raised COL 3.336)
72.5 grain at 3.333 (Made one variable change: Lowered gr charge)
Take a look at the targets
The top...
Nikon Primus 3x9 40
Do not know proper torque specs
Scope base and rings perfect
Do not know what my COL is
Max length is 3.495 per using inside caliper measurements
Son shot - same thing as me.
Not sure about
I cannot get consistent 3 shot groups. I removed the Limbs de-resonator. Still no help. Right now I am shooting 73 grain 225 NAB at a very very consistent 2895 to 2911 FPS. I just cant get 3 closer than 1 1/2" and usually after the first 4-5 shots, the groups maintain a consistent 2" to 3"...
First and most important and I mean this. You guys are awesome! You are also rocket scientists. Just a continuous thanks.
All day yesterday and today I was begging to be Friday afternoon so I could get out to the range. :) It has arrived.
Sure enough, when you unfold the Chrony, it has a...
..Well you guys have the "every day" experience and have always been right every single time so this has to be it. I was so pumped going to the range and when I got those results I was deflated for the rest of the night. Today is a new day.
Boy you can sure tell I am a newbie reloader. :):)...
um....
The shades were on.
..if 180 degrees is completely flat and if it was at 175 degrees, would that make the difference? I mean if it was not perfectly flat, it was so very close. The stand holding it might have kept the back end up as much as the thickness of a popsicle stick laying flat...
Okay first the good news: First time use and I didn't shoot my chrony (even at exatly 15 feet). All 6 rounds measured within 5 fps of each other, with the exception of 1 with a deviation of 7 fps. I now can really appreciate everyone's advice to "work up" and I believe it to be an absolute...
Very Very Good Point Powerstroke. I am looking that information up right now and it appears Siberian Ginseng is a very good and possible assistant. I take some medicine so I wil get with DR to validate okay on that.
At 53 and not the best of athletic shape, this is good info.
Thanks
Steve
That is encouraging Scotty. Yeah I saw the weight. I better start doing some serious leg exercises.
..and yes I have a bear tag.. That news has me pumped!!!!aq The last time I got a bear was around 1975. Scotty is familiar with the area. We both are from the Adirondackmtns over there on...
To Everyone,
Incredible recommendations and suggestions. I must have done enough investigative shopping to become a "newbie critic".
I don't think there was one comment that I did not investigate. I took a little bit of a shortcut out. AS mentioned, money did play a factor. I am taking an...
Cheap is not always a good thing... yup I agree...
I see some additional questions if I may.
The old school thinking in me questions the if the boots that are part leather, part other material, are they as good as the ones as the boots that are all leather?
I noticed JD338 mentioned sock...
I will be hunting the Eagle River Valey area (Units 35, and 36)(3rd season - November 6th thru the 14th). I have never been there before but Son's party has hunted there 3-4 seasons in a row. I am just hoping they don't walk me to death.
On the Cabela's site I have found these to be possibles...
