Great post!
I'm currently working up in a similar way for 30-40 Krag so this is very interesting.
0.0004" expansion make no sense to me, thats nothing. I have a sloppy chamber and undersize remingtonbrass and get 0,007" expansion on loads I think is moderate. I reload for modern pressures...
Sound just like my old Tikka M65 in 270 win.
My new favourite falls just outside your specification, its a C.Sharps Highwall in 30-40 Krag. She's 8 pounds but with a 20 inch barrel and no scope she carries well so I hope to get a moose or two with her this fall. Anyway, my best fiveshotgroup so...
HEY! sober up!
If there is any need for a caliber between 30.06 and 375 H&H get the 338 winmag. I'm happy with my 35 Whelen but use a 338 in dreams, you figure.
I agree hat the 180 PT will kill the moose everytime with reasonable shooting. But in my opinion Accubonds is better in standard velocities and TSX in magnum velocities.
So in 30.06 I vote 200 or 180 Accubond.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend.
I dont know how to put this polite but, holding your shot until you know you get your game with one shot is good hunting, beeing able to hit targets at long range is good shooting, keep shooting to hit game to far away is no good at all.
The 225 bullet weighs 168 grains. I dont remember how much the 260 grainer weighs.
If my ballistics calculator is correct I should get similar range from a 250 grains Partition if i sight in 7 cm above rather than 6 cm at 100 meters. I never shot anything with a Partition so maybe I should do...
What is the system of colorcoding on Noslerbullets?
The Accubonds I have used have white polymertips, and the homepage show a lot of colors on ballistic tips according to caliber, but what 180 gn 30 caliber bullet has orange tips?
225 gn .358 on the right. On the left is a 260 gn Accubond from a much larger moose and 375 H&H a couple og years ago.
Yes I think 225 gn is to light for moose in 35 Whelen, a 160 grainer would be heavy enough from a 270 Win. The 225 Accubonds give very good trajectory and lots of energy but...
Pictures must come later.
Saturday I recovered a 225 Accubond from in a moosecow. Bullets workes just as expected, quartering forward shot at 50 meters, it entered through the chestbone, touched the heart and stopped under the skin around the left shoulder. A lot of the chestbone was fragmented...
