Thinking of building the wife a "sort of" custom...

Try a Savage short or old intermediate action. Trigger is easy to tweak, rebarrel is easy to DIY, and for $150 you can put on a new factory take-off & aftermarket nut/recoil lug. With their floating bolt head it isn't hard to get em shooting, and while its apart you can use Brownells aerosol...

    300 Weatherby 168 ETip

+1 If I were running a 300 Weatherby that & the 168 gr TTSX would get worked over hard; Nosler made a great call designing these for a lower minimum velocity than the Barnes & Hornady. Promising looking group there Scotty.

    Lets talk Bullets

Believe me Yoda I understand the NEED to tinker! Don't remember if anyone mentioned it, but check out the bullet testing sub-section of the reloading board. Good info there! Welcome too... JD & I are Fudgies from GR but love yer neck of the woods!

    Stevens 200 throat length .223

4 things: 1) That Barnes will likely shoot well with a long jump to the lands 2) I have a Stevens 200 take-off tube on a Savage that has a much shorter throat than that; you may have a tube cut by an old reamer vs mine maybe cut by a new? 3) What does your magazine allow for maximum cartridge...

    Lets talk Bullets

If you get to do post-mort there can't be too much wrong with what you're doing. I tend to believe that we have a weight retention obsession when it comes to whitetail and shy away from premiums in favor of bullets with more "pop" particularly when behind the shoulder shots are favored. For...

    IMR4451?

Gonna try it w/ 100s in my 257 AI & 168 NCCs in my 7-08 on weds! Might even get to try RL23 in the 280 AI?

    How much brass is enough?

Dang I thought that Guy had crazy bullets; between the two of you you could get through at least a few more Obama reelections! (y) I've got buckets of 223 from when I used to take my boys to local gun Clubs & dumpster dive; never imagined I'd need it all (since I had no desire for an AR!)...

Has anyone gotten the Hornady GMX.....

IMHO monos are useful when impact speeds are north of 3k; if I use them in standard cartridges I run light for caliber projectiles to get that speed (130 TTSXs in the 06 & 90 GMXs in 257 AI). You're right to go to another bullet and made a great choice, though I've never found a need for any...

Has anyone gotten the Hornady GMX.....

90 gr Blems from MidwayUSA, Hunter, & WLRMs from 257 AI. I treated em like TTSXs; left a nice long jump to lands. That was my first time out, but haven't tried any other configurations through any other rifles.

7x57, good article in Guns magazine

I have a really beautiful custom LR 98 in 7x57 getting some finishing touches right now. Hoping to hunt with it this fall. As soon as it's in my possession I'll post up pics. Hoping to get 150 NBTs shooting through it for pronghorn, and 120 NBTs for whitetails here. Thanks a lot Guy for...

    7mm Mashburn Super Magnum

That sounds awesome. I think I am going to get my Win M70 (now 280 AI) a Douglas 6-06 barrel so I'll end up w/ a 7x57 & 7 MSM. What do you think you can get speed-wise from a 145 gr LRX?

Hornady New Dimension Sizing die issues 300 Win Mag

I'd say that based upon my limited experience that you may well have an under-spec die that is over working the brass as Kraky suggested. I had this issue with a 338-06 die of theirs, sent it to them with an explanation of the problem (there was no disputing the issue) and they sent it back...

    Needing more understanding!

Is this graphite stuff different from mica?
  20. E

    Needing more understanding!

Yes, dimensions of brass will change. I haven't found that to be an issue for me. One thing of note is that each time you fire and full length size cases you work harden the brass removing it's elasticity. This reduces case life. By next sizing, you can increase case life because you're not work...
