Once you figure out those ABLRS Jim let me know. They've ran me through the ringer a couple of times.

Sue's 280 looks good. I don't think it'll be long before you've got a couple of good ones.

Scotty,

I think the 168 gr ABLR is going to need a slower powder.
I will tinker with this bullet and see what I can do. As you know, my 280AI shoots everything lights out.

Dang man never thought much of the Nosler rifles cuz I'm not big on synthetic but that thing is GORGEOUS!

Very, very nice looking rifle & promising-looking accuracy too.

See ya tomorrow for lunch my friend,

Eric

Quite impressive, Jim. I do like where you are going with the 120 and 140 grain bullets. Perhaps the 150 grain ABLR would be the ticket rather than the 168 grain?

Mike,

The M48 is moving along with the 120 gr BT and the 140 gr BT and I expect to have loads for both shortly. I may give the 150 gr PT and ABLR a try but for now, I really want the 140 gr BT to shoot. This will give Sue a deer/antelope rifle.

The 168 gr ABLR out of my M700 280AI is something I have been wanting to try for quite some time. I already have a great load with the 150 gr ABLR and it has proven its self on deer. Just trying the 168 gr ABLR for grins.

Jim,

I'm working on the 168's as well. To the lands in my rifle is 3.550" starting at 3.5-3.450" in .025" increments, with 60.5 and 61.5 gr of 7828. I'll put a post up when I shoot it.

Cool. Clock your speeds too if you can.

we went to the range today to test additional loads for the M48 280AI.
Target #1 and #2 are the same load, 120 gr BT with 62.5 grs RL10 and a COL of 3.315".
#1 was from a clean oiled barrel so it is a little bigger. #2 went .648" so we are just about there. Next week I will give the same load try with a COL of 3.310". I'm hoping to break the .500" mark.

#6 is the 140 gr BT with 63.0 grs RL22 and a COL of 3.325" went .755". Almost there. I'm thinking 3.320" should get me where I want to be.

I also shot #8 and #9 with my M700 280AI with the 168gr ABLR.
#8 59.5 grs RL22 and a COL of 3.400" went .950".
#9same load with a COL of 3.385" went 1.342"
I will try this load again with a COL of 3.335" and 3.330" and see where I end up.

Sue was kind enough to fire form 25 rounds of 280 Rem in my 280AI so I have more brass to work with. What a trooper. (y)

Looking pretty good, Jim. I'd say the Model 48 is coming along nicely. The old 700 has some competition. Either are shooting very good. Comforting when things come together.

I did some more range work with the M48 280AI and the 140 gr BT.
I am trying to get to the 3150 fps range so I can use an existing CDS dial on the VX-3 3.5-10x40mm scope.
It appears that 60.0 grs RL22 and 59.0 grs IMR4831 are the powders I will focus on. My goal is .5 MOA.

7828 ssc should work good for 3,150 fps with 140's...have you tried it yet?

That is my next choice of powders.

I have ran the numbers on the Ackley every which way they can be run...and that is a powder that I keep coming back to...MRP seems to be working for me, but I'm almost wishing I had went with 7828 instead...and may do it yet.

7828ssc looks pretty good. RL26 also looks very interesting, particularly for the 168 grainers.

Im looking forward to hearing about folks experience with RL 23, and the new IMR 7977. I know QL doesn't have data yet for 7977, but it looks like it may fit right in there.

Dang Jim all this testing is making me realize I need to get my dies now. If it isn't one thing it's another! I have 120 rounds of brass and several different bullets and powder to try. I just picked up some IMR7828SSC too to give it a whirl.

I really like her rifle.

We took the rifle out yesterday to confirm the load and get an absolute zero at 200 yds.
Brought up the elevation for 300 yds and put one in a 2" square. Switched to the gong
and Sue was dead on steel. Next weekend we will go 400 yds.

Good job Jim confidence is always the key to shooting and it sure seems like Sue enjoys that rifle.
When she get consistent out to 400 yards I am going to see if I can borrow her coach for a couple of lessons !!
Keep up the good work.

Blessings,
Dan
