    S&W Mod. 25-5 grips

Recently added this to my 45 Colt stable. The grips feel huge to my average size hand and I was looking to get educated on possible replacements. Would these factory stocks be what are called "Magna" or if not what are "Magna"? Any info or suggestions on grips that wouldn't feel so bulky...

    Leupold 6X

Found a factory reconditioned M8 6x36 Compact for $200 to put on the pre-64 Mod. 70 in 270. The new FXII 6x36 runs $300. Do you guys think that the newer coatings and construction would justify the additional $100? Or would the older M8 version be all that a guy really needs.

    Hammer vs. Striker-fired

In the world of polymer framed pistols, such as Ruger's SR series or FNH's FNX and FNS, what would you guys perceive as the advantages/disadvantages of having a hammer or not. I like the idea of grabbing a pistol and just squeezing the trigger, be it SA or DA, without fumbling with a manual...

    4X or 6X

Thanks for all the responses. Sounds like there's not that much difference between 4X and 6X at the closer ranges. Leaning heavily toward the 6X36mm. Thanks again.

    4X or 6X

My brother picked up a pre-64 Mod. 70 featherweight in .270 for me. I'd like to keep the classic personna going by adding a fixed power Leupold. I'm a farmland whitetail woods hunter with an occasional mule deer or elk hunt in Colorado. I am definitely not a member of the long-range crowd, as...

    1911 Holster

My Ruger SR1911 finally came in and I need some OWB leather for it. Being a fan of the pancake style for my other handguns, I was looking at the Simply Rugged Cuda. I have read good things about it and was wondering if any of you guys had experience with it or had other suggestions.

    Powder measures

My brother is looking for a different powder measure. What do you guys use and what are pros and cons of each? Anyone have one of the JDS units advertised in the gun magazines?

    38-55 bullet

Dave, you are being extremely generous with your offer, and I appreciate it. I think I've decided to get some gas checked .381 BHN 15 bullets and see what happens. Deer season starts tomorrow, so this project may get delayed for a couple of weeks. I'm going to use my Mod. 94 in 375 Win., as I...

    38-55 bullet

I did some measuring last night. Fired necks mic out at .391. Dave, is it possible that you meant deduct .010 to get bullet dia. instead of .001? I also hammered in the slug that I used to get bore dia. (.382) into a fired case. The neck dia. was then measured at .396, but this wouldn't...

    38-55 bullet

Enjoying the responses. Mt. Baldy replied that they could size to .382. I wonder though if after seating a bullet this big, it would cause chambering problems with the increased neck diameter. I can't think it would, as this 116 year old rifle has looser dimensions in its bore than standard...

    38-55 bullet

Thanks for the reply Scotty. Their website lists .380 as the largest size. As a gas check design, I doubt it would slug up enough on firing to engage the rifling. I e-mailed Mt. Baldy Bullets to see if they produced a bullet over .380, but haven't heard back yet.

    38-55 bullet

Shot my vintage 1895 Model 94 Win. in 38-55 cal. the other day and had a blast but turned up a problem. Using 255 gr. Win. factory loads, I shot from sitting at 40 yards to begin sight-in. After a couple of adjustments, I moved back to the bench at 80 yds. All bullets at this range went...

straight 284 win. Anyone out there load for this?

Aaron, a few years ago I purchased a new USRAC model 70 compact in 7-08 and had it rechambered to 284. Nothing else needed to be changed as the bolt face is the same diameter and the magazine feeds fine. I did add a Pachmayr decellerator pad, mainly to increase length of pull. My magazine...

    Bisley grips

Thanks for the response guys. I'd like to stay with the same size grips, as anything bigger feels clubby in my hand. I really like how the Eagle Gunfighter grips look, and they are offered in both smooth and checkered. Reading Sixguns by Keith last night, Elmer really liked ivory, saying it...

    Bisley grips

I have a Ruger Bisley 45 with ugly black laminated grips. I want to replace them with walnut. I will be shooting stout loads (but safe) and was wondering about your opinions concerning smooth or checkered grips. Most all pictures I have seen with Linebaugh's conversions have smooth. Under...

    Brass "wires" after seating

Thanks for the replies. I guess I've been cautious about chamfering too much and reducing case length. A little thought about that makes me realize that you would have to grind quite a bit to do that.

    Brass "wires" after seating

I've noticed a thin ring of brass at the case mouth after seating bullets in different calibers on bottleneck cartridges. It is easily removed with a thumbnail and pulling it off. Am I not aggressive enough with the chamferring tool? I'd just as soon it wasn't there.

    SHOTS

Does anyone know if these are the competition bullets repackaged? If so then it appears that I'd be better off varminting with the 50 and 55 gr. ballistic tips, as they have higher B.C.'s. Thanks for the help.

    SHOTS

Thanks for the replies. Where did you guys purchase them? Rick, what were you hitting with them - paper or hair?
