Performance of 30-06 180 BT vs 180 Partition

Hi Don, we drew a few extra deer tags two years ago and used our '06's to bag them. Two of them used 180g AB's and one used 180g BT's. All three of us had extensive meat damage from these bullets. They were fairly close range - less than 75 yard shots. Last year, we drew some more tags...

    Knives????????????

I agree. I got that knife with a sheath at the Buck store in Post Falls for less than $20 cause it was a blem. Figured if it got lost or broken, no biggie. Liked it so much, I bought my son the complete kit... the kit weighs less than a folding hunter. I tried the Havalons. Good stuff there...

    Knives????????????

Fotis- I skinned, gutted and quartered my wifes cow elk this year with a wyoming saw and this knife. Did not even need to sharpen it, though it could use it. Needless to say, my pack is now 4 pounds lighter from the lack of knives I use to carry. I still have a back up, but there ya go.

    180 G. Accubonds/ 30-06 IMR 4350 or Varget

Thanks guys. I think I will stick with the IMR. Its hard to measure accuracy with my particular rifle as it needs a new barrel. WM

    180 G. Accubonds/ 30-06 IMR 4350 or Varget

So, I was wondering if any of you have used both of these powders with the rifle and bullet combo above? If so, what did you prefer and why? I have reloaded this combo with IMR, but after reloading some more 35 Whelen's with Varget, I got to thinking...... Thanks

    Three weeks to bear season!

I hope you guys are not affected by the fires. Hope it will slow down and cease quickly. On another note.. Bears.. Bears.. Bears.... Saw three of these bad boys today while picking huckleberrys near Mt. Spokane. Of course they were on the Washington side.. Good luck when you get out there...

    I know i said I would never,(PICS UP!!!)

I hear ya Screaming Eagle. After having used an M4 battle unit, I did not see the whole how to do about having an AR. But that changed over the decades. I now have three. A Rock River, Daniel Defense and just picked up a Starlos with a polymer lower. My biggest complaint with the RR and...

    Ideal Elk Rifle

Used the 300RUM for a few years. This year if I don't get one with my bow, I am going back to an -06. Probably with 180g accubonds;. I am not going to be shooting over 200 yards this year so I see no reason to hump around a near 12 pound canyon buster.

    Case Extraction Question

Thanks guys. I had my son look up some youtube videos and it shows what you are taking about. Lots of good resources on this board! I like it. WM

    Case Extraction Question

Thanks for the input guys. Yeah, I've owned about a half dozen or so 1911's and even had one as a carry weapon in the service. That being said, the first thing I thought of maybe I was limp wristing it. I have a Springfield micro POS that will stovepipe in a second if you don't gorilla grip...

    Case Extraction Question

Just picked up a Ultra CDP. Used. The gun is great except on extraction of the spent case. It throws the shell right into the safety glasses of the shooter. Tried different rounds and it does it with all of them. Non of my others do this. They extract the spent cases to the right a few...

    Possibly upgrading the 7-08

I agree with dark horse. Do a lot of the work yourself. It's a lot easier than you may think. I installed a Timney on my Montana and feel it was a nice upgrade to the modified factory trigger. Might want to look into that. You might also want to consider upgrading the the rail base screws...

    1 In 9 Twist -06

Thanks guys. I was curious as a local shop has that barrel from a special order that was never picked up. Think I will pass. Thanks again

    1 In 9 Twist -06

Has anyone ever used this twist in a 22 -23" barrel cambered in 30-06? If so what did you notice over a 1 in 10 or other twist you have used? What projectile and weight did you use? Thanks WM

    Am I Just Dreaming?

My 72 year old father in law still shoots his 300wm. He can barely get around and has no intentions of slowing down. It sounds like you have about the same mobility as him. I just have to help him out. We still go elk hunting, though I now pack around his chair... and yes I hang a handicap...

    MI Turkey Season Double

Nice job. Now come to my place and thin the flock of about 60 that go by my front door every morning. :)

So what are you using this year???

Elk: Hopefully get it done with stick and string. If not, out comes the 300 UM. Deer and Bear: The old trusty 700 BDL in 30-06. Wolf: Hopefully they will feel some 200g AB love from the 300UM.

    Caliber Decision

Good choice Vince. I am also in the market for the caliber you got. I am buying mine purely as something different.
